How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: PROBABLE — SAR application 27139 (James Marvin Hinkle, 1914) traces a descent through James Francis Quisenberry, son of Colby Burris Quisenberry and Lucy Bush, and his wife Emily Cameron Chenault
S498. A second compiled source, the 1900 family
Memorials written by his son, calls him Colby Burris Quisenberry's eighth child
S689 Evidence: SAR application 27139, which traces a descent through him and his wife Emily Cameron Chenault; his own 1847 marriage bond with Emily C. Chenault; the 1900 Quisenberry Memorials, written by his son, which call him Colby Burris Quisenberry's eighth child. Weak or missing: The bond proves the marriage, but his parentage rests on two compiled sources; no record made in his lifetime names his parents. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Life in the order the records give it
Burial1900
🆕 The 1900
Memorials of the Quisenberry Family, written by his son Anderson Chenault Quisenberry, calls him the
eighth child of Colby Burris Quisenberry. It gives his birth in Madison County on 15 October 1824, his death in Clark County on
3 February 1877, and his marriage on 14 October 1847
S689.
Colonial Families of the United States gives the same dates
S688. Both are compiled books. added 26 September 2026.
Military1863
🆕 A
Jas. F. Quisenbury, 38, a white farmer born in Kentucky and living in Clark County, is on the June–July 1863 Civil War draft list for Kentucky's 7th District, just below Thos. J., 40, and Roger T., 37
S725 Probable confirm or correct →. The age fits his 15 October 1824 birth and the county fits his home. What is weak: the list gives only a name, an age and a county. added 26 September 2026.
Census1860
🆕 The censuses show the family in Clark County: in 1860 James, 35, and “Emma”, 28, with Alice, 12,
Anderson, 9, Waller, 7, and Francis, 5
S759; in 1870 Jas. F., 45, farming land worth $26,000, with Emma C., Alice, Walter and Francis, three houses from
Golding Quisenberry, 52, whose kinship is not known
S760. Emily went by Emma in both. added 26 September 2026.
Death1915
🆕 Emily Cameron Chenault's mother:
Emily Cameron Probable confirm or correct →. Another page of the 1915 SAR application gives “Anderson Chenault, born 1788, died 1854, and his wife Emily Cameron, born 1796, died 1836, married 1816”
S859; the Madison County marriage bond of 1847 names Anderson Chenault as “father of Emily C. Chenault”
S870. Accepted by Earl as probable; what is weak: the bond names the father only, and the mother rests on the compiled SAR application; the day and place of birth and death that trees give her are not in any record read. added 28 September 2026.
Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Marriage1832
Married
Emily Cameron Chenault (about 1832–1904); the SAR application says
1846, but their marriage bond is dated
11 October 1847 S643. Her parents were probably Anderson Chenault and Emily Cameron (below)
Marriage1847
🆕 His own marriage bond survives. On
11 October 1847, in Madison County, Kentucky, he gave bond, with
David W. Chenault as surety, for his marriage to
Miss Emily C. Chenault, and signed it “James F. Quisenberry”
S643. The SAR application's 1846 is probably a year early. added 26 September 2026.
Parents1832
🆕 Emily Cameron Chenault was born in February 1832; in 1900 she was living with her son Waller in Clark County, the mother of four children, three then living
S690. A 1915 SAR application by her grandson names her parents as
Anderson Chenault (1788–1854) and
Emily Cameron, and her grandfather as William Chenault, a Revolutionary soldier
S691;
Colonial Families agrees
S688.
Probable confirm or correct → Evidence: two compiled sources name her parents.
What is weak: no record made in her lifetime names them. If you know more, use “Add to this record”. added 26 September 2026.
Children1848
🆕 Their daughter
Emma Alice Hinkle, born 26 October 1848, died in Robertson County, Tennessee, on
4 January 1931. Her death certificate names her parents as James F. Quisenberry and Emmily C. Chenault
S692. She had married Joseph (or Josiah) Addison Hinkle in 1870
S689S691. added 26 September 2026.
Children1853
🆕 Their son
Walter (Waller) Quisenberry, born in Clark County on 12 January 1853, died at Winchester on
6 November 1914. His death certificate names his parents as Jas. Quisenberry and “Emma” Chenault
S698S690. added 26 September 2026.

Probable A great-grandson's lineage: Colby Burris Quisenberry (1788–1870) and Lucy Bush (1790–1872), married 1810; Lucy the daughter of Francis Bush and Rachel Martin (his second wife); Francis Bush born 23 February 1750, Orange County, Virginia, died 1836, Clark County, a private in the 2nd Virginia. The supplemental line gives Colby's parents as James Quisenberry (1759–1830) and Jane Burris, married 1776. A compiled lineage of 1914, not a record, so the parents are probable. The cover sheet is record 315462.
