How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: PROBABLE — named only once, as the father of the groom in the 1704 marriage register, read from the image
S607. Added 26 September 2026
Evidence: The 1704 Michelbach marriage register, which names him as the groom's father, a farmer at Seibotenberg; his own second marriage, as a widower, in the Michelbach register of 7 November 1699. Weak or missing: Two entries only; his dates, his first wife, his other children and his own parents have not been found. The two candidates for his father come from a later copy of the baptism register, not the original, and no record yet links either one to him. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Life in the order the records give it
Work1709
A farmer at
Seibotenberg, a hamlet of Michelbach an der Heide parish, now part of Gerabronn; Pröger households are recorded there from 1709 to 1726
S610Burial1705
🆕
Second candidate: Philipp Pröger, a farmer at Seibotenberg
Probable, weak Evidence: buried at Michelbach in March 1705 aged “77 less a quarter year”, so born about 1628, old enough to be Hanß’s father; he married Apollonia Sch[..]lerin at Michelbach on 1 August 1676, probably as a widower
S673.
Weak or missing: no record names any child of his; he could as well be Hanß’s elder brother or uncle; nothing links him to Hanß. Know more?

Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Marriage1699
🆕 A widower by 1699: on
7 November 1699 at Michelbach an der Heide, “Hannß Pröger, Bauer zu Seibothenberg … ein Wittiber” married
Regina, widow of the late Jörg W[einmann?]
S666. So Hans’s mother had died before then, and Regina was his stepmother. added 26 September 2026.
Marriage1651
🆕
Leading candidate for his father: Hans Pröger and his wife Anna, of Seibotenberg
Probable, weak Evidence: a later-hand copy of the Seibotenberg baptisms, which begins in 1651, lists their sons
Leonhard, baptised 21 August 1652, and
Melchior, 15 June 1655, probably the Leonhard and Melchior Pröger who married at Michelbach in 1681 and 1677; a Johannes Pröger stands godfather there in March 1651; and Anna was a widow by October 1665
S674. On that reading Hanß would be an elder son, born before the copy starts.
Weak or missing: Hanß’s baptism would predate the register; the copy is not the original; and no record names his father or links him to this household. Know more?

Not found
🆕 Who his father was is not known. Two Seibotenberg farmers are candidates, below. His own baptism, which would settle it, has not been found. added 26 September 2026.

🆕
Where he died is not known. He was not buried at Michelbach in 1704 or 1705 (both years read in full), and the Michelbach burials for January 1706 to 1721 are missing from the film
S673. He was not buried at Triensbach, where his son farmed, between 1705 and 1721 either

In the record
Generation 11 — Earl's earliest known
- S607Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers — Michelbach an der Heide and Triensbach, marriages 1704: Hans Pröger and Elisabetha, 20 May 1704. Ancestry records 15330609 (image 1528592-00362) and 16643399 (image 1860322-00473). Images examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed "Hanß Pröger, son of Hanß Pröger, farmer at Seibotenberg, new farmer at Triensbach", married Elisabetha at Triensbach. The Michelbach copy names her through her late first husband, the farmer Hanß Kochendörffer; the Triensbach copy's surname is lost in the binding, and its index reading "Stocklöv" is unexplained.
- S610Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers — Michelbach an der Heide, baptisms 1709–1722 and burials 1726: the Pröger households at Seibotenberg. Ancestry record 15335607 (image 1528592-00808) and Michelbach baptisms Bd. 7. Images examined, read 25 September 2026. They confirm Seibotenberg, a hamlet of Michelbach an der Heide, now part of Gerabronn, as a Pröger farm village, the word the 1704 marriage uses for Hans's father.
- S666Michelbach an der Heide marriage register, 7 November 1699 — Hanß Pröger and Regina. Ancestry record 15330557, image 1528592-00357. Image examined, read 26 September 2026. Confirmed “Hannß Pröger, Bauer zu Seibothenberg … ein Wittiber” marries Regina, widow of the late Jörg W[einmann?]. The late husband’s surname and village are only partly legible.
- S673Michelbach an der Heide burial register, Bd. 6, 1704–1705 — including Philipp Pröger of Seibotenberg, March 1705. Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers, film 1528592, images 00450–00453 (Philipp: 00451, 1705 no. 3); his 1676 marriage to Apollonia Sch[..]lerin, image 00318. Images examined, read 26 September 2026. Confirmed “Philipp Pröger, Br. zu Seibothenberg … aet. 77 weniger ¼ Jahr”. The 1704 and 1705 burials were read in full and hold no Hanß Pröger. The volume ends with the 1705 total; the next burial volume begins in 1722, so the burials of 1706–1721 are missing from this film. The day of Philipp’s burial is partly legible ([1]7 March). Nothing here links Philipp to Hanß.
- S674Later-hand abstract of the Seibotenberg baptisms, 1651–1665 (Michelbach an der Heide parish). Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers, film 1528594, images 00328–00329. Images examined, read 26 September 2026. Probable Hans Pröger’s sons Leonhard (21 August 1652) and Melchior (15 June 1655); “Anna, Johann Prögers … Witwe” as a godmother in October 1665. This is a later copy, not the original register, and it does not name Hanß.
- S675Triensbach burial registers, 1705–1721 (Bd. 3 to October 1715, Bd. 4 from 1716). Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers, film 1860322. Images examined at half resolution, read 26 September 2026. Not found No burial of Hanß Pröger of Seibotenberg. A negative search: he may have died elsewhere, or in the Michelbach gap of 1706–1721.
