How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Brandenburg and Saxe-Weimar→
New Ulm, Austin County, Texas- G6 · 4th-great-grandparents
Dietrich Stein ⚭ Anna Barbara
🆕 Dietrich is now confirmed as Henry Stein's father: the 1880 census of Austin County, read from the image, lists Dietrick Stein, 68, widowed, born Saxe-Weimar, as the father of the head, Henry Stein S919. Born about 1812–1820 in Saxe-Weimar; alive in June 1880. The family account's death about 1885 at New Ulm is on no record read. His wife is family testimony only: “Anna Barbara”, c.1820 Germany – before 1870, is a given name sitting in a surname field, almost certainly a lost maiden name, and no record read names her.

Traugott Ladusch ⚭ Johanna Selle
7 Jun 1835 Brandenburg – 7 Jul 1906 La Grange, Fayette Co., Texas · she c.1835 Germany – c.1899 Texas. Alongside them: Henry Stein (23 Mar 1846 Saxe-Weimar – 13 Nov 1909 Austin County) ⚭ Mary Emmett (29 Aug 1846 England – 30 May 1889). An 1871 New Ulm baptism register, written at the time, names them Heinrich Stein, from the Eisenach district, and Maria geb. Emmert S633. 🆕 The 1880 census lists Emma, 5, as the daughter of Henry Stein, which confirms him as her father S919.

Confirmed
Two details here are checkable and therefore worth stating. Traugott Ladusch died
at La Grange, Fayette County, Texas in 1906, which is a county death record
waiting to be pulled; and the New Ulm and La Grange German Lutheran church registers
should hold this whole family.

- Married Emma Stein on 5 November 1895, Austin S329; see Emma Stein Ladusch
- In 1900, Austin Ward 10: Otto 26, married five years, with Emma and daughters Frieda, 3 and Elizabeth, 2 S327; in 1910 at 1617 Willow Street, Austin, with Freda 13 and “Liccie” 11 S328

- Died 26 December 1958 at Seton Hospital, Austin, Travis County, Texas; buried Oakwood Cemetery, Austin S325
- His death certificate gives his parents as “no record” S325, and he is not listed among Traugott Ladusch's children on Find a Grave S336
- 🆕 His father: probably Traugott Ladusch Probable confirm or correct →. His own Social Security application, as indexed twice, names his father as Traugott Ladusch and gives his birth as 30 March 1873, the same day as his death certificate S851S325. What is weak: it is an index of one document, with no image read, and it conflicts with the certificate's “no record” and the Find a Grave child list above. added 28 September 2026.
- 🆕 His mother: probably Johanna Sille (Selle) Probable confirm or correct →, named as Traugott Ladusek's wife on the 1945 death certificate of Pauline Wenzel, born in Germany in 1866 S850. What is weak: no document names Otto's mother; the Social Security index leaves her as “?” S851. added 28 September 2026.
- 🆕 The Texas death index for 1958 lists him as Otto Ladusch, Travis County, 26 December, state file 72008 Confirmed S1005. added 29 September 2026

Frieda Ladusch
ConfirmedDaughter of Otto Paul Ladusch · born 1896
- Research status: CONFIRMED — added 24 September 2026 from a record that names the parents; entered in the family tree the same day.
- Daughter of Otto Paul Ladusch and Emma Stein; elder sister of Hattie Elizabeth Ladusch
- Born August 1896, Texas; Frieda, 3, in 1900 and Freda, 13, at 1617 Willow Street, Austin, in 1910 S327S328
- 🆕 Her full name was Freda Bertha Ladusch. She married Otto C. Herber, a piano tuner, at Austin on 26 August 1916, by Pastor Gideon Olson of Gethsemane Lutheran S470S471. Their son was Roy Otto Herber S469, and in 1930 they owned 907 W. 29th Street, Austin S472. She later married a Mr. Wesson, and died as Freda Herber Wesson on 18 July 1973 at Comfort, Kendall County; she is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin S468. Her own 1942 statement gives her birthplace as New Ulm, Austin County (probable); her death certificate says Austin S469S468. added 25 September 2026.
- 🆕 The Frelsburg baptism register gives her full name, Frieda Bertha Caroline, and her birth at New Ulm on 3 August 1896 S551. added 25 September 2026.
- 🆕 The 1932–33 Austin directory has Otto C. and Frieda Herber at 201 West 39th, the home of Ernst and Mary Herber, farmer S578. added 25 September 2026.
- 🆕 Otto Carl Herber was born at Creedmoor, Texas, on 22 November 1892 or 1893. In 1917 he lived at 1904 Canterbury Street, Austin, in the piano business S680. He died at Austin on 23 October 1935 and was buried at Oakwood; the certificate names his parents as E. W. Herber, born in Germany, and Marie Ceska, and gives 1893, while the draft card's year is overwritten and its age points to 1892 S679. added 26 September 2026.
- 🆕 In 1900 Otto, born November 1892, was one of six sons of Ernst Herber, a German-born farmer in Travis County, and his wife Mattie S687. This supports 1892 over the death certificate's 1893. added 26 September 2026.
- 🆕 The 1918 Texas birth index lists an unnamed “infant of Otto Herber”, born in Travis County on 17 April 1918, certificate 21667 Probable confirm or correct → S800. Evidence: the father's name, the county, and a date twenty months after the 1916 marriage. What is weak: the index names neither the child nor the mother; it is probably Roy Otto Herber, and the certificate would settle it. added 27 September 2026

Henry Stein
ConfirmedFather of Emma Stein Ladusch · born Saxe-Weimar
- Research status: CONFIRMED as Emma Stein Ladusch's father — confirmed 28 September 2026. The 1880 census of Austin County, which states relationships and was read from the image, lists Emma, 5, as the daughter of Henry Stein, 32, a farmer born Saxe-Weimar S919, and her own death certificate names her father Henry Stein. Added 24 September 2026 as Probable; Emma Stein Ladusch's Texas death certificate no. 20521 (30 March 1952, Austin) S326, read from the image, her husband Otto Ladusch informant, names her father as Henry Stein, born Germany, and her mother as Amanda “Emmerd” (the reading is uncertain), born England. The 1900 census gives both her parents' birthplace as Germany, so the mother's birthplace is unsettled and no surname is entered for her
- Son of Dietrich Stein. Father of Emma Stein Ladusch, born 21 March 1875, Texas; husband of Amanda
- Born in Germany. The family account on the Ladusch–Stein line gives 23 March 1846, Saxe-Weimar – 13 November 1909, Austin County. The death date and county are now confirmed by a county report of death S613; the birth date is not yet confirmed
- 🆕 The Austin County report of death records a Henry Stein, German-born, 62, who died near New Ulm on 13 November 1909 S613. The date and county match the family account. The report names no wife or children, so it confirms the death and does not prove that he was Emma's father. added 26 September 2026.
- 🆕 A Lutheran baptism register at New Ulm records a son, Johann Wilhelm Dietrich, born 8 October 1871, to Heinrich Stein, from the district of Eisenach, and Maria geb. Emmert, of New Ulm S633. Eisenach lay in Saxe-Weimar, where the family account says Henry was born, and Emmert is the name behind the family account's “Emmett” and the 1952 certificate's “Emmerd”. The register was written at the time. It is about a different child, though, so it still does not prove that he was Emma's father. added 26 September 2026.
- 🆕 A candidate household: the 1900 census of Austin County, Precinct 5, has a Henry Stein, born March 1848, a farmer, with a second wife, Pauline, married 8 years, and Adolf, Bertha, Hedwig, Nora and Ottilie S771 Probable confirm or correct →. A Bertha and a Heinrich Stein stood sponsor together at Frieda Ladusch's 1896 baptism. What is weak: this census gives his birthplace as Texas, not Germany, and does not name Emma, who had married by then. The 1880 Austin County census has now been read: it confirms him as Emma's father, and its Adolph, 2, and Bertha, 7 months, fit the Adolf and Bertha of this 1900 household S919; the Texas birthplace is still the weak point. added 26 September 2026.
- 🆕 On 23 June 1880 the census found him in Justice Precinct 5, Austin County: Henry Stein, 32, farmer, born Saxe-Weimar; Mary, his wife, 35, born Texas; William, 8; Anna, 6; Emma, 5; Adolph, 2; Bertha, 7 months; and his widowed father Dietrick Stein, 68, born Saxe-Weimar Confirmed S919. William, 8, is the Johann Wilhelm Dietrich baptised in 1871 S633. This is the test his card was waiting for, and it confirms him as Emma's father. His wife here, Mary, born Texas, fits the register's Maria geb. Emmert of New Ulm better than the certificate's Amanda, born England. added 28 September 2026.
Full record →
Amanda Stein
ProbableEvidence: Emma Stein Ladusch's 1952 Texas death certificate, her husband the informant; an 1871 New Ulm baptism register names Henry Stein's wife as Maria née Emmert. Weak or missing: The register calls her Maria, not Amanda, and no record yet joins the two names; the 1952 certificate says she was born in England, the 1900 census Germany, and the 1880 census has Henry's wife as Mary, born Texas, without saying she was Emma's mother. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Probable mother of Emma Stein Ladusch · born England
- Research status: PROBABLE — added 24 September 2026 and entered in the family tree the same day, labelled probable there too; Emma Stein Ladusch's Texas death certificate no. 20521 (30 March 1952, Austin) S326, read from the image, her husband Otto Ladusch informant, names her father as Henry Stein, born Germany, and her mother as Amanda “Emmerd” (the reading is uncertain), born England. The 1900 census gives both her parents' birthplace as Germany, so the mother's birthplace is unsettled and no surname is entered for her
- Probable mother of Emma Stein Ladusch; wife of Henry Stein
- Born in England, by her daughter's death certificate. Her maiden name is uncertain: the certificate's “Emmerd” may be the Emmett that the family account on the Ladusch–Stein line gives for Henry Stein's wife. An 1871 New Ulm baptism register names Henry Stein's wife as Maria née Emmert S633, so the surname is probably Emmert; that Maria and Amanda were the same woman is not yet proven
- 🆕 In 1871 the New Ulm Lutheran baptism register calls Henry Stein's wife Maria geb. Emmert (“born Emmert”), at the baptism of their son Johann Wilhelm Dietrich, born 8 October 1871 S633. It was written at the time, and the surname is clear. Probable confirm or correct → The register calls her Maria, not Amanda. She is probably the same woman, but no record yet joins the two names, and her birthplace, England or Germany, is still open. added 26 September 2026.
- 🆕 In the 1880 census, read from the image, Henry Stein's wife is Mary, 35, keeping house, born Texas, with Emma, 5, among the children S919. That is a third birthplace for Emma's mother, after England on the 1952 certificate and Germany in 1900, and it fits the register's Maria geb. Emmert, of New Ulm. The census does not say that Mary was Emma's mother. added 28 September 2026.

Traugott Ladusch
ProbableEvidence: Otto's own Social Security application, indexed by both the SSACI and the Numident, names his father as Traugott Ladusch and gives the same birth date as Otto's death certificate. Weak or missing: It is an index only, with no image read; Otto's death certificate says 'no record' for his parents, and Traugott's Find a Grave child list omits Otto. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Probable father of Otto Paul Ladusch
- Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. Otto's own Social Security application, as indexed by both the Social Security Applications and Claims Index and the Numident, names his father as Traugott Ladusch, and its birth date, 30 March 1873, matches Otto's death certificate exactly S851S325. The 1945 death certificate of Pauline Wenzel, born in Germany in 1866, names her father as Traugott Ladusek and her mother as Johanna Sille S850, which fits a Ladusch family with children in Germany from 1866. What is weak: the application has been seen only as an index, with no image read; Otto's death certificate gives his parents as “no record” S325; and his Find a Grave memorial lists his children as Pauline Alise Wenzel, Annamarie Ehmling, Bertha Nonnenmacher and Reinhold Gustav Ladusch, without Otto S336 Probable confirm or correct →
- Probable father of Otto Paul Ladusch; husband of Johanna Sille (Selle) S850. A member tree also places him as Otto's father S57
- Dates differ between sources: 1831–1899 on FamilySearch S12, 1835–1906 in a member tree S57. His birth on 7 June 1835 in Brandenburg comes from Find a Grave only, and no record read gives his death; a 1900 census entry for an “Aaugot Ladusek”, born January 1846, may be another man
- He is not the father of Hattie “Liessi” Ladusch; her father is Otto S327
- Brandenburg → New Ulm, Austin County, Texas S12
- 🆕 The Texas death index gives his death as 7 July 1906 in Fayette County, certificate 29481 Confirmed S1035. added 29 September 2026

Johanna Sille (Selle)
ProbableEvidence: Pauline Wenzel's 1945 death certificate, read from the image, names her parents as Traugott Ladusek and Johanna Sille; Traugott is Otto's probable father by his Social Security application. Weak or missing: No document names Otto's mother: his Social Security index leaves her '?' and his death certificate says 'no record'; a second wife cannot be ruled out. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →
Probable mother of Otto Paul Ladusch
- Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. The 1945 death certificate of Pauline Wenzel, born in Germany in 1866, read from the image, names her father as Traugott Ladusek and her mother's maiden name as Johanna Sille, born Germany S850. If Traugott Ladusch is Otto's father, as his Social Security application says S851, Johanna is his likely mother. What is weak: no document names Otto's mother — his Social Security application leaves her as “?” S851 and his death certificate says “no record” S325 — and a second wife cannot be ruled out Probable confirm or correct →
- Probable mother of Otto Paul Ladusch; wife of Traugott Ladusch, and mother of Pauline Wenzel S850
- Find a Grave gives her as Johanna Selle, 1835–1899 S336; no record read gives her dates, and the one document read spells her name Sille S850

Dietrich Stein
ConfirmedFather of Henry Stein · born about 1812–1820, Saxe-Weimar
- Research status: CONFIRMED as Henry Stein's father — the 1880 census of Justice Precinct 5, Austin County, Texas, which states relationships and was read from the image, lists Dietrick Stein, 68, widowed, born Saxe-Weimar, as the father of the head, Henry Stein, 32, a farmer born Saxe-Weimar S919. The household is the family's Henry: it includes Emma, 5, and William, 8, the Johann Wilhelm Dietrich baptised at New Ulm in 1871 to Heinrich Stein and Maria geb. Emmert, with a Dietrich Stein among the sponsors S633. Confirmed 28 September 2026
- Father of Henry Stein, and so grandfather of Emma Stein Ladusch. See the Ladusch & Stein line
- In 1870 FamilySearch's census index has a Dietrich Stein, about 50, born Saxe-Weimar, in Justice Precinct 5, Austin County, with Justin, Bertha, Henry and Caroline Stein, and a Texas voter register has Dedrick Stein, born Germany, registering at New Ulm on 7 August 1867 S920. These are index entries; the 1870 census states no relationships
- Born about 1812–1820 in Saxe-Weimar: the censuses disagree, 68 in 1880 and about 50 in 1870. He was a widower by June 1880 and alive then. The family account's birth on 23 November 1820, his death about 1885 at New Ulm and a wife named Anna Barbara are on no record read, and none of them is published here as fact
- 🆕 Probably him in 1860: D Stein, 45, a farmer born Germany, in the Cat Spring, New Ulm and Industry precinct of Austin County, with Anna, his wife, 50, born Germany, and children Willie 18, Houston 15, Henry 13 and Phil 11, born Germany, and a girl Paul[ine], 3, born Texas Probable confirm or correct → S1016. Evidence: Henry, 13, fits Henry Stein, 32 in 1880, whose father Dietrick lived with him in Austin County S919, and an age of 45 falls inside his 1812–1820 birth range. Weak: the census gives only the initial D, and names his wife only as Anna. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
- 🆕 The 1870 census has now been read from the image. On 17 September 1870, in Precinct 5 of Austin County (P.O. Industry), Dietrich Stein, 50, a farmer born Saxe-Weimar, headed a household of Justin, 25, Bertha, 19, Henry, 22, all born Saxe-Weimar, and Caroline, 13, born Texas. There was no wife in the household Confirmed S1059. The enumerator, Max Meissner, is the one who in 1880 listed him as Henry’s father. His age could also be read as 51. added 29 September 2026
