How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Research status
Research status: CONFIRMED as Alice Walden's father — her own 1958 Texas death certificate, read from the image, names her father as
Wm. Mathis Waldon S781, and the 1880 census of Travis County, Texas, which states relationships and was read from the image, lists
Alice, 13, at school, born Texas, her father born Missouri, as the daughter of
William Waldrin, 37, a farmer born Missouri
S916. Confirmed 28 September 2026
Life in the order the records give it
Census1870
In 1870 William Waldon, 28, a farmer born Missouri, was in Precinct 1, Dallas County, with Susan, 24, and Alice R., 3
S801; FamilySearch's index of the same census agrees
S918. That census states no relationships
Census1880
In 1880 his wife was
P. P., 23, born Arkansas, and the household had John, 5, Edward M., 2, and Sarah, 4 months
S916.
Palistine Waldon, widow of Wm. Waldon, born 17 May 1857 in Arkansas, died at De Leon, Comanche County, on 23 April 1934; the informant was Mrs. S. A. Murdock of De Leon
S917. Her age and birthplace fit the 1880 wife. This certificate is about his widow, not about Alice, and only supports the rest
Birth1842
Born about 1842 in Missouri, by his 1870 age; his 1880 age gives about 1843. The certificate spells the middle name
Mathis; the family tree's “Mathias” and its birth on 22 February 1844 at Sarcoxie, Missouri, come from Find a Grave alone and are not published here as fact. He
died 2 February 1920 in Fisher County, Texas, by his widow's sworn pension application
S979; the town, Roby, is on his death certificate
S1001Census1900
🆕 In 1900 W. M. Waldon, 57, born in
February 1843 in Missouri, farmed his own land at
Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas, with his wife P. P., 43, born in Arkansas; they had been married 26 years, which points to a marriage about 1874 (worked out from the census, not a recorded date)
Confirmed S972. added 29 September 2026
Death1920
🆕 His widow,
Prissila Waldon, 63, born in Polk County, Arkansas, applied for a Texas Confederate widow's pension at Girard, Kent County, on 31 March 1920. She swore that William Mathewis Waldon
died 2 February 1920 in Fisher County, Texas, and that he had drawn
Texas Confederate pension no. 9421 Confirmed S979. She also swore that they married on 18 July 1894 in Scott County, Arkansas
Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: her sworn statement. Weak: P. P. was already his wife in 1880
S916 and the 1900 census says married 26 years
S972, and no record read names Prissila as P. P. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
Death1920
🆕 His Texas death certificate, read from the image, names him
W. M. Walton: he died at
Roby, Fisher County, on 2 February 1920, aged 77 years 11 months,
born 22 February 1842 in Missouri, married, farming, his father born in Tennessee, and was buried at Roby the same day
Confirmed S1001. The certificate's 1842 agrees with his 1870 age; Find a Grave's 1844 does not. added 29 September 2026
Census1920
🆕 In January 1920 he was at Roby, Fisher County, aged 78, with his wife
Paleshine, 65, and a granddaughter, Estelle Wells
Confirmed S1040. added 29 September 2026
Census1850
🆕 In September 1850 he was
William M., 8, at school, in the household of
James Waldon, 48, a farmer born in South Carolina, and Joanna, 36, born in Kentucky, in Jackson Township, Jasper County, Missouri. He had sisters Susan C., Nancy A. and Rachel T. and a baby brother, John L.
Confirmed S1120. This is the first record that names a father. Joanna’s age does not fit the 67 given in 1870, and his own later censuses give his father’s birthplace as Tennessee.
Census1910
🆕 In 1910 he was
William Waldon, 67, a teamster in Mason County, Texas, in his
second marriage, which had lasted 36 years. With him were his wife
Phisilla, 53, born in Arkansas, mother of nine children with eight living, their sons Robert S. and Charles G., and Tempie P., 5
Confirmed S1121. Phisilla’s age and birthplace fit Palistine Waldon (born 1857, Arkansas). A marriage of about 1874 means Susan Voshery had died or left by then.

- S781Texas death certificate 47912: Alice Rachael Owens, died Austin, 8 August 1958. Ancestry record 22341781. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed Alice Rachael Owens, born 14 September 1867 at Waco, Texas, died 8 August 1958 at 804 South 1st, Austin; buried 9 August at Youngs Prairie Cemetery. Father Wm. Mathis Waldon; mother unknown. Informant: Mrs. J. C. Caffey, her daughter Medie. 🆕 The Texas death index agrees: “OWENS ALICE RACHAEL”, Travis County, 8 August 1958, file 47912 (Ancestry record 6803138, read 27 September 2026). Settles her birth year (1867, not 1866) and birthplace (Texas, not the Tennessee on Medie's certificate). The 1870 Dallas County census has Alice R., 3, with William Waldon, 28, born Missouri, and Susan, 24; Susan as her mother is not yet on any record that states a relationship. Collection: Texas, U.S., Death Certificates.
- S8011870 U.S. census, Precinct 1, Dallas County, Texas, p. 259, dwelling 1664: William Waldon household. Ancestry record 14464669. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Probable William Waldon, 28, farmer, born Missouri; Susan, 24, born Texas; Alice R., 3, born Texas; Rachel Billard, 20; James Billard, 1; Joana Walden, 67, born Kentucky; Nancy, 22; Lewis, 19; Phamy E., 16. The index reads the name “Walaon”. The census states no relationships, so Susan is only the probable mother. Collection: 1870 United States Federal Census.
- S852Texas marriage index — William M. Walden and Susan Voshery, 23 December 1866, San Augustine County. Texas Marriage Index. Index entry only — no image was examined, read 28 September 2026. Probable Susan Voshery and William M. Walden, 23 December 1866, San Augustine County, Texas. Index only. Indexes of the 1850 and 1860 San Augustine County censuses list a Susan Voshury or Voschery, aged 5 and 14, born Texas; they have not been read.
- S9161880 U.S. census, Travis County, Texas, polling places 12 and 24, SD 5, ED 125, p. 7, dwelling 60: William Waldrin household. Ancestry record 7306932. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Enumerated 7–8 June 1880: William Waldrin, 37, farmer, born Missouri; P. P., wife, 23, born Arkansas; Alice, daughter, 13, at school, born Texas, father born Missouri; John, son, 5; Edward M., son, 2; Sarah, daughter, 4 months. The census states relationships, so it names Alice as William's daughter. The surname is spelled Waldrin here. Collection: 1880 United States Federal Census.
- S917Texas death certificate 16849: Palistine Waldon, died De Leon, 23 April 1934. Ancestry collection 2272, record 22589266. Image examined, read 28 September 2026. Confirmed Palistine Waldon, a widow, wife of Wm. Waldon, born 17 May 1857 in Arkansas, died at De Leon, Comanche County, on 23 April 1934; informant Mrs. S. A. Murdock, De Leon. About William's widow, not about Alice; supporting only.
- S918FamilySearch, United States Census 1870 — household of William Waldon, Precinct 1, Dallas County, Texas. FamilySearch ark:/61903/1:1:MXGP-RRH, checked 28 September 2026. Probable William Waldon, born about 1842, Missouri, with Susan and Alice R. Waldon and Joana, Nancy, Lewis and Phaney E. Walden. An index of the same census page as S801; it states no relationships. FamilySearch's index of Alice's 1958 certificate is the same record as S781 and is not counted again.
- S9721900 U.S. census — Johnson City, Blanco County, Texas, ED 6, sheet 15A, dwelling 236. Ancestry record 78949697. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed W. M. Waldon, head, born February 1843, 57, in Missouri (parents born Missouri), a farmer who owned his farm, married 26 years; P. P., his wife, born May 1857, 43, in Arkansas; and five children born in Texas between 1881 and 1895. The wife's birth month, year and state match Palistine Waldon's death certificate (S917) and P. P., 23, in 1880 (S916). “Married 26 years” points to a marriage about 1874; that date is worked out from the census, not stated as a date. The children's initials were not read with confidence and are not given. Image 4111937_00684.
- S979Texas Confederate widow's pension application (Form B), Kent County, sworn 31 March 1920 — Mrs. Prissila Waldon, widow's file 36536. Ancestry record 1410673. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 28 September 2026. Confirmed Mrs. Prissila Waldon, 63, born in Polk County, Arkansas, 43 years in Texas, 9 in the county, post office Girard, Texas, swore that her husband, William Mathewis Waldon, died on 2 February 1920 in Fisher County, Texas, and that he had drawn Texas Confederate pension no. 9421. She also swore that they married on 18 July 1894 in Scott County, Arkansas. The widow is a first-hand informant for the death, and the date matches Find a Grave. The town, Roby, is still Find a Grave only. The 1894 marriage date is her statement and is not settled: P. P. was already his wife in 1880 (S916), and the 1900 census says married 26 years (S972). Prissila is probably P. P. and Palistine (S917), but no record read gives both names. His own pension file, no. 9421, has not been read.
- S1001Texas death certificate, registered no. 4402 — W. M. Walton, Roby, Fisher County, 2 February 1920. Ancestry record 40055478. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed W. M. Walton died at Roby, Fisher County, on 2 February 1920, aged 77 years 11 months, born 22 February 1842 in Missouri, married, farming; father born Tennessee; buried at Roby the same day. The surname is written Walton. The informant's name is hard to read (J. K. Wells?). The 1842 year agrees with his 1870 age; Find a Grave's 1844 does not.
- S10401920 United States Federal Census — Roby, Fisher County, Texas, enumeration district 68, sheet 5B. Ancestry record 22392522. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed Dwelling 93: W. M. Walden, 78, born Missouri, father born Tennessee; Paleshine, wife, 65, born Arkansas; Estelle Wells, granddaughter, 7.
- S11201850 U.S. Federal Census — James Waldon household, Jackson Township, Jasper County, Missouri (dwelling and family 189). Ancestry record 3829274. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed Enumerated 4 September 1850: James Waldon, 48, farmer, born South Carolina; Joanna, 36, born Kentucky; Susan C., 10; William M., 8, at school; Nancy A., 4; Rachel T., 2; John L., 5 months; the children were all born in Missouri. Joanna’s age, 36, does not fit the 67 given for Joana in 1870. James’s birthplace is South Carolina here, but his son’s later censuses say Tennessee. Rachel’s middle initial could be T or S.
- S11211910 U.S. Federal Census — William Waldon household, Mason County, Texas (S.D. 14, ED 201, sheet 5B, dwelling 78, family 79). Ancestry record 28392493. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 29 September 2026. Confirmed William Waldon, head, 67, in his second marriage, married 36 years, born Missouri, father born Tennessee, mother born Kentucky, a teamster; Phisilla, wife, 53, first marriage, mother of 9 children, 8 living, born Arkansas; Robert S., son, 24; Charles G., son, 23; and Tempie P., 5, entered as a daughter. The precinct name in the header is hard to read. Tempie, 5, may be a grandchild, because her mother would have been 48 at her birth.
