Life in the order the records give it

Birth1847
Born 3 November 1847, Germany S137S124
Death1912
Died 9 April 1912, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, aged 63; buried Smithfield East End Cemetery S19
Census1910
In April 1910 — her last census
she is Wilhelmina S. Proeger, 63, married 44 years, at 707 N. St. Clair Street, Pittsburgh, with Walter, Gertrude and Caroline S182. The enumerator wrote her husband as Louis G.; the household is Julius's.
Birth1847
Baptised "Sibÿlla Mina" at Langenburg, born 3 November 1847, daughter of Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer, cooper, and Eva Margaretha Renk S184.
Arrival2026
🆕 Three of Minnie's brothers went to America before her, added 26 September 2026: Johann Carl, born 21 March 1839 at Langenburg, applied to emigrate in October 1858 Probable confirm or correct →; Friedrich, born 25 December 1842, a shoemaker, and Heinrich Hermann, born 14 May 1845, a bookbinder, sailed together on the Humboldt from Hamburg to New York on 23 June 1864 S611. Heinrich Hermann's baptism names Georg Leonhard and Eva Margaretha as his parents and sits on the same family-register folio as Minnie's S612; Johann Carl's baptism, read from the register image, names the same parents: he was born 21 March 1839 and baptised at Langenburg on 27 March 1839 S729. His 1858 emigration application and Friedrich rest on index rows only. Minnie's own crossing has not been found

Names
Also recorded as Wilamena K., Mina L. and Sibylla Mine.
Parents1847
Her parish is named for the first time: Langenburg. The FamilySearch shared tree christens her there on 21 November 1847, in the Oberamt Gerabronn, Württemberg
eight kilometres from Kirchberg an der Jagst, where her husband was baptised three years earlier S69S124. Two families out of one small district who marry in Pittsburgh is chain migration, not coincidence. Confirmed — the Langenburg register entry itself has now been read S184. An earlier note here rested on an index entry placing a Proeger family at Künzelsau; the Württemberg baptism supersedes that guess.
Parents2026
Her parents, Confirmed on 25 September 2026 from her baptism register and their 1837 marriage register S444: Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer (1811 – 1 October 1859, died at Langenburg) ⚭ Eva Margaretha Renk (b. 1809), married 29 November 1837 at Gerabronn, with six further children S124
Marriage1900
The marriage was made in America. On the 1900 census both spouses report immigration in 1867, 33 years in the United States and 32 years married
so they crossed first and married in 1868, on this side of the ocean. The same row records ten children born, seven living as of 1 June 1900; that column exists only on a wife's line, which is why her husband's record never carried it S137.

Open questions what is probable, weak or missing — confirm or correct it

Open question
⚠️ The year was corrected from 1848 to 1847 on 21 September 2026. This page had kept the 1848 on her cemetery memorial S19 and merely noted the shared tree's 1847. Three things now stand against it: the 1900 census S137 writes Nov 1847 and gives her age as 52 at 1 June 1900, which is consistent only with 1847
a November 1848 birth would read 51; her 1912 Pennsylvania death certificate gives 3 November 1847 independently, twelve years later; and her christening on 21 November 1847 S124 cannot precede her birth. The memorial's 1848 is the outlier.
Not found
Her own crossing is still Not found. Langenburg makes the Württemberg registers, rather than the Hamburg passenger lists, the next place to look.

  2. S69Carl Julius Prüger — Lutheran baptism, Kirchberg an der Jagst (Oberamt Gerabronn), Württemberg, 28 April 1844. Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500–1985 (Ancestry collection 61023), retrieved 16 September 2026. Born 15 April 1844, between 11 and 12 noon, baptised 28 April 1844 at Kirchberg an der Jagst, Oberamt Gerabronn, Württemberg — the register writes the place Gerabronn, Kirchberg u. Oa. (today Baden-Württemberg); father Georg Melchior Julius Prüger, Bürger und Schuhmachermeister dahier; mother Elisabeth Catharina geb. Lösch. Entry no. 22, original scan 5759 × 4607 px. The record that ended the "somewhere in Germany" wall on this line, and the origin of the Prüger spelling that was anglicised to Proeger in America. The identification rests on an exact birth-date match with S68, not on the name alone. ⚠ Superseded note, corrected 20 September 2026: this entry previously said the mother's name was lost in the binding fold and that her surname came from S68 alone. That was a limitation of a low-resolution screenshot, not of the record — at full resolution the line is legible, and the Schrift im Falz verdeckt flag on the film refers to a gutter this entry sits clear of. The register names the mother, and it is the best of the three readings of her given name — see S122. The parish is Kirchberg an der Jagst and the Oberamt is Gerabronn: the siblings' entries read Kirchberg (OA. Gerabronn), and Julius gave Kirchberg as his home to the Hamburg clerk in 1865.
  3. S124Minnie Margaret Kochendoerfer — christening at Langenburg, and her parents. FamilySearch shared tree, person LHQC-M24, with parents LR9G-7HM (Georg Leonhard Kochendorfer, 1811 – 1 October 1859, died Langenburg) and LR9G-WGN (Eva Margaretha Renk, b. 1809), married 29 November 1837, Gerabronn, with six further children. Her christening: 21 November 1847, Langenburg, Oberamt Gerabronn, Württemberg. Read via the published tree-data service on 20 September 2026; read-only — nothing was edited, merged or attached. User-contributed tree data, and graded as such: Probable. No Langenburg parish page has been read here. Its value is the parish: Langenburg is 8 km from Kirchberg an der Jagst, where her husband was baptised [S69], both inside the Oberamt Gerabronn. Two families out of one small district marrying in Pittsburgh is chain migration, and it redirects the search for her crossing, still Not found, from the Hamburg passenger lists to the Württemberg registers. ⚠ The tree gives her birth year as 1847, and the 1900 census [S137] and her 1912 death certificate now agree with it — so 1847 is the settled year and the cemetery record's 1848 [S19] is the outlier. The christening date is itself part of the proof: a baptism on 21 November 1847 cannot follow a birth in November 1848, but sits eighteen days after 3 November 1847. ⚠ The same profile carries an unsourced 1855 immigration for Julius alongside 1865; the Hamburg port register settles it at October 1865.
  4. S1371900 U.S. Federal Census — the Julius "Prouger" household, Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Ancestry collection 7602, record 42748658, image 4115244_00814. Enumeration District 101, Greensburg Borough Ward 4, sheet 24 B, dwelling 461, family 502, 219 West Third Street, enumerated 19–20 June 1900 by James S. Kimmel. Read from the image at full resolution — 3848 × 3810 px, 21 September 2026; read-only, nothing accepted, attached or edited. The surname is written Prouger. Lines 60–64: Julius, head, Apr 1844; Minnie, wife, Nov 1847, age 52; Walter H, son, Jan 1881, Architect; Gotleib, son, June 1882; Carrie, daughter, Apr 1888. This is the record that settles Minnie's birth year at 1847. The written month and the age column agree only with 1847 — a November 1848 birth would have been entered as 51, not 52 — and her 1912 Pennsylvania death certificate gives 3 November 1847 independently, twelve years later. Two further facts come from the wife's row alone: both spouses report immigration in 1867, 33 years in the US and 32 years married, which places the marriage in America in 1868, after the crossing; and 10 children born, 7 living. The nativity column says only "Germany" — it does not corroborate Langenburg.
  5. S1821910 U.S. Federal Census — the Proeger household, 707 N. St. Clair Street, Pittsburgh Ward 11. Ancestry collection 7884, record 122780201, image 4449845_01104; SD 23, ED 421, sheet 4A, enumerated 16–18 April 1910. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Head entered as "Louis G." Proeger, 66, born Germany, owns the house free; Wilhelmina S., wife, 63, married 44 years, born Germany; L. Walter 29, land surveyor; Gertrude C. 27; Caroline M. 22; a servant. 🔑 Minnie in her last census, two years before her death, with three of her children. ⚠ "Louis G." is the enumerator's name for Julius — the wife, the children and the street identify the household, and Julius is at 711 on the same street in 1920 [S179]. ⚠ The sheet's immigration year for both, 1855, loses to 1865 for Julius ([S179] [S180]); for Minnie it is the only statement and is not adopted. Married 44 years points to 1865/66 and is left open.
  6. S184Langenburg (Württemberg) baptismal register, 1847, entry 30. Ancestry record 14762676. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Baptised "Sibÿlla Mina", born 3 November 1847 between 10 and 11 at night, baptised 21 November. Father Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer, Bürger in Gerabronn, cooper (Küfer) in Langenburg; mother Eva Margaretha geb. Renk. 🔑 Minnie's parents on an original register. The next fetch is the Langenburg Familienregister (1834 volume), f. 279. The status of [S124] is not changed here.
  7. S444Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers — Gerabronn, marriages 1837, no. 5: Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer and Eva Margaretha Renk, 29 November 1837. Ancestry record 914646708. Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer, master cooper (Büttnermeister), born at Gerabronn 1 March 1811, son of Johann Georg Martin Heinrich Kochendörfer and Eva Barbara, marries on 29 November 1837 Eva Margaretha, born at Wallhausen 25 January 1809, daughter of Georg Andreas Renk, innkeeper and master baker at Wallhausen, and the late … Margaretha geb. Zins. The register image, read in place of the index rows cited before. Ancestry's index gives her birth as 15 January and her mother as “Eva Margareta Renk”; the image reads 25 January and Zins. It appears to call the mother Eva Margaretha, where the 1813 register (S443) says Maria Margaretha; the 1813 entry, made by her own husband's parish three years after her death, is followed here. The groom's mother's surname is only partly legible.
  8. S611Kochendörfer brothers of Minnie Kochendoerfer — baptism, emigration and passenger indexes, 1839–1864. Ancestry 61023 records 14762261 and 14762439; Württemberg Emigration Index (Ancestry 3141) records 54880, 54870 and 54874; Hamburg Passenger Lists (Ancestry 1068) records 5480945 and 5480946, image K_1709_080468-0641, read 25 September 2026. Johann Carl, b. 21 March 1839 Langenburg, applied to emigrate to North America in October 1858. Friedrich, b. 25 December 1842, a shoemaker, 21, and Heinrich, a bookbinder, 19, both of Langenburg, sailed on the Humboldt from Hamburg to New York on 23 June 1864, entered as one party. Probable for Johann Carl and Friedrich: index rows only; the emigration index names no parents.
  9. S612Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers — Langenburg, baptisms 1845, no. 17: Heinrich Hermann Kochendörfer, 14 May 1845. Image 1528568-01034 (not indexed). Image examined, read 25 September 2026. Confirmed Son of Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer, cooper, and Eva Margaretha geb. Renk; family register Langenburg II fol. 279, the same folio as Minnie's 1847 entry.
  10. S729Langenburg, Württemberg, Lutheran baptisms, 1839, no. 10. Ancestry record 14762256. Image examined, read 26 September 2026. Confirmed Johann Carl, born 21 March 1839 at 9 in the evening, baptised 27 March 1839 at Langenburg; parents Georg Leonhard Kochendörfer and Eva Margaretha, born Renk. Family register Langenburg 1834, fol. 279.

Living adults appear in full, on the same terms as everyone else here: what the records say, each claim cited. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
