How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

S593.
🆕 Georg Friedrich became a weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen like his father and married Maria Margaretha Stegmaier at Triensbach on 20 September 1836 Confirmed S738. 🆕 He was dead by September 1864, when their son Georg Friedrich (born 25 December 1838) married Margaretha Barbara Bauer of Gröningen at Triensbach; the register calls the father “† Georg Friedrich Pröger, weaver and cottager” S775. 🆕 That couple's daughter Rosine Barbara Pröger was born at Erkenbrechtshausen on 15 September 1865; she married Georg Friedrich Osterlein at Triensbach on 26 March 1889 and died on 26 October 1952 Confirmed S790. added 27 September 2026. Maria Margaretha married again, to Johann Leonhard Frank, a weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen, and died his widow at Triensbach on 16 May 1887; her burial entry names her parents, Georg Simon Stegmaier and Katharina Batz S776. Both entries carry family register II,343. A second Georg Friedrich Pröger, a living master weaver (register II,344), was at Erkenbrechtshausen in 1864, so the register number is what ties these to ours. added 26 September 2026.Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Marriage1796
🆕 First married
Anna Maria Busch, November 1796 (banns at Ellrichshausen, wedding at Triensbach). Their first son,
Johann Michael Pröger, was born at Erkenbrechtshausen on
15 April 1797 and baptised that day at Triensbach, Georg Melchior Julius's full brother
Confirmed S623. She is the mother of
Georg Melchior Julius Prüger, born 25 July 1804
S595S591.
🆕 Johann Michael, a day labourer at Großaltdorf, married Anna Barbara Hübner of Großaltdorf (born 27 April 1801) there on 17 June 1829 Confirmed S737S779; the Großaltdorf copy of the entry also names the bride's mother, Anna Catharina (surname unclear, perhaps Frinauer); the index’s 17 January is wrong. Their children, all baptised at Großaltdorf: Margaretha Barbara (20 January 1829–23 January 1831), Johann Georg (1830–1904), Johann Simon (1832), Johann Friedrich (1834–1907) and Barbara (1843) Probable — the baptisms of the three sons are index entries only, their images not yet read S739. 🆕 Two of the daughters' entries have now been read. Margaretha Barbara was born on 20 January 1829, five months before her parents married, and died of convulsions on 23 January 1831, aged two; she was buried on 25 January, the date the index and the tree took for her death Confirmed S788. Barbara was born on 8 January 1843 and baptised on 12 January, the daughter of J. M. Pröger, citizen and day labourer, and Anna Barbara geb. Hübner Confirmed S789. added 27 September 2026 Add to this record →. 🆕 Two of the sons' burial entries have now been read. Johann Georg, an unmarried cottager, died at Kleinaltdorf on 28 February 1904 and was buried at Großaltdorf on 2 March Confirmed S778. Johann Friedrich, a weaver, died at Hausen on 31 May 1907 and was buried at Untersontheim on 2 June Confirmed S777; the index had put his death at Merkelbach. His burial entry gives his birth as 30 September 1834, where the tree has 6 October (perhaps the baptism); the 1834 baptism would settle it. added 26 September 2026. No emigration record is found for him.Marriage1806
🆕 Married second, as a widower,
4 March 1806 at Triensbach,
Eva Barbara Schmidt, daughter of Johann Michael Schmidt, master weaver at Brettenfeld. She was Georg Melchior Julius's
stepmother. The index's 2 March is the last reading of the banns

- S739Großaltdorf and Triensbach baptism, marriage and burial index entries, 1828–1907, for the children of Johann Michael and Georg Friedrich Pröger. Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers (index). Index only, searched 26 September 2026. Probable The parents’ names and places match on every entry. The baptism images for the sons have not been read. Margaretha Barbara’s burial (S788) and Barbara’s baptism (S789) have been, and correct the index: Margaretha Barbara was born 20 January 1829 and died 23 January 1831. Burials and a marriage have since been read (S775, S777, S778) and correct the index: Johann Friedrich died at Hausen on 31 May 1907, and Johann Georg died on 28 February 1904, the 2 March date being his burial. The Württemberg emigration index has no entry for either brother.
- S775Triensbach marriage register, 1864 no. 8: Georg Friedrich Pröger and Margaretha Barbara Bauer, 27 September 1864. Ancestry record 16799012. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed Groom Georg Friedrich Pröger, born 25 December 1838 at Erkenbrechtshausen, son of “† Georg Friedrich Pröger, Weber und Köbler” and Maria Margaretha geb. Stegmaier; bride Margaretha Barbara Bauer of Gröningen, daughter of Johann Michael Bauer. Family register II,343. The cross before the father's name means he was dead by September 1864. A second Georg Friedrich Pröger, a living master weaver (family register II,344, wife the late Catharina Barbara Philipp?), appears on the same page; this entry is ours by its register number and the mother's name. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
- S776Triensbach burial register, 1887 no. 5: Maria Margaretha Frank, born Stegmaier, died 16 May 1887. Ancestry record 16190318. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed “Maria Margr. Frank g. Stegmaier”, a weaver's widow at Triensbach, died 16 May 1887 of dropsy and was buried 19 May, aged 85 years 5 months. Husbands: I. † Georg Friedr. Pröger, weaver; II. † Joh. Leonhard Frank, weaver at Erkenbrechtshausen. Parents: † Gg Simon Stegmaier, weaver, and † Kathrine Batz. Family register II,343. The same register number as the 1864 marriage (S775), which ties the two entries to one family. It gives her birth as 18 December 1801; her 1836 marriage (S738) says 10 December. Both are secondary for the birth and the question is open until her 1801 baptism is read. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
- S777Untersontheim burial register, 1907 no. 6: Johann Friedrich Pröger, died at Hausen 31 May 1907. Ancestry record 11725277. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Born 30 September 1834 at Großaltdorf, son of Johann Michael Pröger and Anna Barbara Hübner. Wives: 1) the late Anna Maria Probst (reading uncertain), 2) Rosina Crasser (reading uncertain). Corrects the index, which maps his death to Merkelbach. The birth date here (30 September) differs from the tree's 6 October, which may be the baptism; the 1834 Großaltdorf baptism image has not been read. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
- S778Großaltdorf burial register, 1904 no. 3 (p. 135): Johann Georg Pröger, died at Kleinaltdorf 28 February 1904. Ancestry record 11999376. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Born 24 June 1830 at Großaltdorf, son of Johann Michael Pröger and Anna Barbara Hübner, family register I,80. Corrects the tree and index, which give 2 March, the burial day, as his death. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
- S779Großaltdorf marriage register, Bd. 7 p. 21, 1829 no. 1: Johann Michael Pröger and Anna Barbara Hübner, 17 June 1829. Ancestry record 911997540. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed The Großaltdorf copy of the marriage in S737: Johann Michael Pröger, born 15 April 1797 at Erkenbrechtshausen, son of the late Johann Leonhard David Pröger and “weil. Anna Maria geb. Busch”; bride Anna Barbara Hübnerin, born 27 April 1801, daughter of the late Johann Georg Hübner, farmer, church-council member and Heiligenpfleger, and Anna Catharina Frinauer (reading uncertain) of Hohnhardt (reading uncertain). A second register for the same wedding, and a second source for his mother Anna Maria Busch (S623). The index's 17 January is wrong here too. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Parish Registers.
- S788Großaltdorf burial register, 1831 no. 1: Margaretha Barbara Pröger, died 23 January 1831. Ancestry record 11998179. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed Margaretha Barbara, daughter of Johann Michael Pröger and Anna Barbara geb. Hübner, born 20 January 1829, died 23 January 1831 of “stille Gichter” (convulsions), aged 2 years 3 days; buried 25 January 1831. Family register p. 80. Corrects the index and the tree (born 25 January 1828, died 25 January 1831): the tree took the burial date for the death. She was born five months before her parents married on 17 June 1829 (S737). Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500–1985.

Family register p. 80. The sponsors' surnames (Reichert?, Schließmann?) are uncertain readings. Moves Barbara from the S739 index to an image. Collection: Württemberg, Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500–1985.
- S790Stöckenburg family register, vol. 23 fol. 87b: Georg Friedrich Osterlein and Rosine Barbara Pröger. Ancestry record 4630098. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 26 September 2026. Confirmed The bride is Rosine Barbara Pröger, born at Erkenbrechtshausen on 15 September 1865, daughter of Georg Friedrich Pröger, farmer at Triensbach, and Marg. Barb. geb. Bauer. She married Georg Friedrich Osterlein, innkeeper at Altenmünster and later a farmer, at Triensbach on 26 March 1889, and died on 26 October 1952; buried at Stöckenburg 29 October 1952. Five children are entered. Her parents are the couple married at Triensbach in 1864 (S775). Only the bride's line is used here; her children are not named on this site.
