Research status: PROBABLE — her 1911 Kentucky death certificate names her parents as James Brock and Betsy Howard, both born in Harlan County S454. It is the only source; its informant, H. D. Peters, was also the undertaker and very probably her son-in-law (see below), and it was written 80 years after her birth

Evidence: Her 1911 Kentucky death certificate, which names James Brock and Betsy Howard as her parents; an 1852 Laurel County birth register naming Levi Hoskins and Elizabeth Brock as a child's parents; the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses, which show Levi and Elizabeth with the same children in the same order. Weak or missing: The death certificate's informant, H. D. Peters, was the undertaker and very probably her son-in-law, writing 80 years after her birth, and the birth register gives no age for Elizabeth, so the Levi Hoskins link is probable. In 1860, at Harlan Courthouse, Harlan County, Levi, 30, and Elizabeth, 30, had Ransom, 9, Jefferson, 7, William, 6, Hiram, 5, Mary, 2, and Solomon, one month old S721. In 1870, in Clay County, Levi, 44, and Elizabeth, 40, had James R., 19, Jefferson C., 18, William, 16, Hiram, 14, Mary J., 11, Solomon L., 9, Caroline, 7, John M., 6, Palistine, 4, and a baby of two months whose name is hard to read S722. In 1880, in Owsley County, Levi, 54, and his wife Elizabeth, 49, had Caroline, 18, John M., 16, Palestine, 14, and Leander, 10 S723. Her ages fit a birth in 1830 or 1831, and the Jefferson C., 18, of 1870 fits the Jefferson C. born in 1852 to Levi Hoskins and Elizabeth Brock S648. None of the censuses gives her maiden name, so the Brock link stays probable. added 26 September 2026.

This fits a marriage about 1851 and the 1852 birth of Jefferson C. Hoskins, and puts her in Owsley County, where she died. added 26 September 2026.
