How to read this record
Every claim is tagged
Most family trees flatten everything into the same confident typeface. This one does not.
The three research tags below are the whole point of the exercise: they say what a document
proves, what the weight of evidence suggests, and what nobody has found yet. A fourth marks
what the family stated directly, where no document has been retrieved at all — it is kept
separate on purpose and is never quietly promoted to confirmed. A fifth, added on
13 September 2026, marks biological evidence: a DNA result is not a document, and it is not
testimony either. Two further labels mark where this page withholds information
rather than lacking it.
ConfirmedAttested by a document that was actually retrieved and read — a census sheet, a
government index, a grave marker, a family-written obituary.
ProbableStrongly supported but not nailed down: a user-contributed tree, a masked index field,
or a chain of consistent circumstances. Believable, not proven.
Not foundSearched for and not located. This is a statement about the search, not about the
person — the record may well exist somewhere unsearched.
Family testimonySupplied by the family and recorded on their word — no document has been retrieved for
it. Note the diamond rather than the dot: this is provenance, not proof, and it stands
apart from the three record tags above S24.
DNA evidenceBiological evidence consistent with a claim. It corroborates origins; it does
not by itself establish a person or a link. Note the bar rather than a dot or a diamond:
no DNA result on this page is ever counted as confirmed, because no document
was read for it S46.
Living — withheldThe person is living. By the privacy rule for this page, name and relationship are
shown, and at most a year the family has already published. Full dates of birth, ages,
places of residence and record identifiers are held back.
Research in progressA branch that is actively being worked on. The node exists in the structure so the
shape of the family is honest; the detail is simply not in yet.

Life in the order the records give it
Birth1920
Born
5 November 1920, Lolita, Jackson County, Texas; died
23 July 1991,
aged 70
S37S38Burial—
Buried Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas
the same
cemetery as his wife, thirty-one years later
S37Death2026
🆕 His obituary, indexed under his own name, gives his death at
Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and his last home at
Richland Hills Probable confirm or correct → S767. Only the index has been read, not the clipping; its years are “about”, worked out from his age, and it is the same obituary as
S295. added 26 September 2026.
Birth1920
🆕 His birth was registered with the state as the unnamed infant of
Jonah Walker, Jackson County, 5 November 1920, Texas birth certificate
61632 Confirmed S943. added 29 September 2026
Military—
US Army Air Corps, Second World War. Dorothy's obituary:
"After her
graduation from high school, she met Melvin Walker and shortly after they were
married. Upon his discharge from the Army Air Corp, they moved to Ft. Worth"
S36 ⚠️ A same-name grave that is not his child. An infant "Clarence M Walker,
6 January 1944 – 2 December 1944" is also buried at Mount Olivet, Fort Worth. The
name fits, the cemetery fits and the date would fit a first child born before the move.
No record connects him to this couple, and he is not attached here — recorded so
the next reader does not adopt him on the strength of a name
Not found.
Family parents, marriages, children, siblings
Names—
He went by his middle name. "Walker, Clarence" in the indexes and "Melvin
Walker" in the family's own obituary text are one man
which is the whole reason
this identification took a record rather than a search
S36S37Parents1930
Son of Daniel Jonah Walker and Nettie Ellen Cleveland
from his Social Security
NUMIDENT entry, a government record whose parent fields come from his own SS-5
application
S38, and from the 1930 census of
Precinct 2, Jackson County, which enumerates the whole household
S87Children—
Father of three daughters, all born in Tarrant County and all named in Dorothy's
obituary sixty years later

Generation 3 — Kristin's grandparents
- S36Obituary of Dorothy LaVonne Peters Walker (12 February 1926 – 13 August 2022), Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth — greenwoodfuneralhomes.com; the same text transcribed on FindAGrave memorial 242876604, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth. Family-written. It names her husband "Melvin Walker," her parents "Benjamin 'Pete' and Selma Peters," her three daughters, her Chicago birth and Sioux Falls upbringing, the Norway trips, and — decisively — "Kristin (Earl) Proeger of Austin, TX" among her grandchildren. ⚠️ Only the funeral home's own copy carries the "ROUND ROCK" dateline; the FindAGrave transcription drops it. The funeral home's page is published in full in the Documents grid (Earl's per-item exception, 25 Sep 2026).
- S37FindAGrave memorial 103851507, Clarence Melvin Walker (5 November 1920 – 23 July 1991), Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas — findagrave.com/memorial/103851507. A grave marker transcription. ⚠️ Neither this memorial nor Dorothy's carries any family link — both were checked, and neither has parents, spouse or children attached. The shared cemetery corroborates; it never carried the finding.
- S38US Social Security NUMIDENT — Walker and Peters entries, republished verbatim at SortedByName.com — walker/index_707 and peters/index_123. A government record; parent fields come from the person's own SS-5 application. Gives "WALKER, CLARENCE MELVIN … born 5 November 1920 in LOLITA, Texas, son of DANIEL J WALKER and NETTIE CLEVLAND … died 23 July 1991," and "PETERS, BENJAMIN L … born 12 October 1905 … died 9 April 1993, while residing in Zip Code 78154" (Schertz, Guadalupe County, Texas). Both sets of dates match the headstones exactly and independently.
- S39Texas Birth Index 1903–1997 and the 1950 US Census, Tarrant County, via FamilySearch in a signed-in session. "Clare La Vonne Walker — Birth [date withheld], Tarrant, Texas — Parents Clarence Melvin Walker, Dorothy La Vonne Peters," with her sisters Marilyn Dorothy and Carolyn Jane indexed to the same couple; and the 1950 census household at White Settlement, Tarrant County. The state vital record that supplies Dorothy's maiden name, independently of any obituary. ⚠️ All three daughters are living, so the birth dates on these index rows are redacted here — the citation is reproduced as it was read, minus the dates the privacy rule withholds.
- S871930 United States federal census — Precinct 2, Jackson County, Texas: the Walker household. Read 16 September 2026. Enumerates Daniel Jonah Walker and Nettie Ellen "Annie" Walker with their children Mary, Olan, Clarence Melvin and Robert J — the household Kristin's grandfather was born into at Lolita in 1920. This is what took the Walker great-grandparents past two bare index names. Before it, the couple existed only in the parent fields of their son's Social Security NUMIDENT record, which spells her "Nettie Clevland" and gives no dates, no places and no children. The census writes Cleveland and supplies the household. Their own parents are still Not found; the tree's "Desa Hodges, b. 1888" for Nettie's mother would make the mother eight years old and is rejected, not corrected.
- S295U.S., Newspapers.com™ Obituary Index, 1800s-current — Dorothy L. Walker. Ancestry record 814246314. Index entry only — no image was examined, read 22 September 2026. Probable Indexed: Dorothy L Walker, spouse Clarence Melvin Walker; children La Vonne Caffey, Marilyn Peters, Carolyn J Wilson. Almost certainly Melvin's 1991 obituary, indexed with Dorothy as his widow. The daughters' married names of about 1991 are Probable.
- S767U.S., Newspapers.com™ Obituary Index, 1800s-current — Clarence Melvin Walker. Ancestry record 814200251. Index entry only — no image was examined, read 22 September 2026. Probable Indexed under his own name: Clarence Melvin Walker, born about 1921, Lolita, Jackson County, Texas; died about 1991, Fort Worth, Tarrant County; residence Richland Hills, Tarrant County; spouse Dorothy L Walker; children La Vonne Caffey, Marilyn Peters, Carolyn J Wilson. The same clipping as S295, indexed a second time under his name; together they are one witness, his 1991 obituary. The years are the indexer's, worked out from his age. The clipping itself has not been read.
- S943Texas, U.S., Birth Index, 1903–1997 — 1920 births, Wal–Wal, p. 1358: Walker, Jonah, Inf. of, Jackson County, 5 November, certificate 61632. Ancestry record 150398391. Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 24 September 2026. Confirmed "Walker | Jonah, Inf. of | Jackson | 11-5 | 61632": an unnamed infant of Jonah Walker, born in Jackson County on 5 November 1920, state birth certificate 61632. This is Clarence Melvin Walker's birth registration: the same date and county as his Social Security entry (S38) and gravestone (S37), and his father Daniel Jonah Walker went by Jonah. The first digit of the date is overstruck; certificate numbers on the page run in date order, which places 61632 in November. The certificate itself has not been ordered. Collection: Texas, U.S., Birth Index, 1903–1997.
