  1. G7 · 5th-great-grandparents Thomas Walker  ⚭  Mary Beuford b. 1737 – d. 18 Oct 1802, Lunenburg County, Virginia · she 1743 – bef. 1783. His 1802 will names nine living adult children, among them "Jarratt" S60. This is the oldest Walker this page accepts — everything above him is quarantined. ⚠️ But the join down from him is not proven. No record yet links Thomas and his son Jarrett to Daniel Green Walker; Jarrett rests on an online tree. 🆕 Daniel Green Walker and Mary Jane Bross are now the probable parents of Willie B. Walker, from Willie's own death certificate S787, the 1900 census in which his mother lived with him S808 and his brother Edgar's certificate S809 (27 September 2026); the gap is above Daniel Green, not below him. Thomas is accepted as a man with a will, not yet as Kristin's ancestor. Family testimony
  2. 6 generations between — show them
    1. G6 · 4th-great-grandparents Jarrett Walker  ⚭  Sarah Martha Hollingsworth 1782 Lunenburg Co., VA – 13 Sep 1824 Union, South Carolina · she 21 Aug 1786 Newberry Co., SC – aft. 1850, Barbour Co., Alabama. Her parents: unknown. Family testimony
    2. G5 · 3rd-great-grandparents Daniel Green Walker  ⚭  Mary Jane Bross c.1815 South Carolina – 14 Jul 1873 Columbia, Tuolumne Co., California (both from the online tree) · she June 1830, Alabama – after 1900; she remarried and was Mary J. Daniels by 1900. Her parents: unknown. 🆕 Probable parents of Willie B. Walker Probable confirm or correct →: his 1914 death certificate names “Daniel Walker” and “Mary J. Brass or Bross” S787; in 1900 Mary J. Daniels, 69, “Mother”, lived in his Jackson County household S808; and his brother Edgar Bross Walker's 1941 certificate names Daniel Green Walker × Mary Jane Bross, Edgar born California 1861 S809. What is weak: the widow-informed certificate lacks “Green”, the 1900 link rests on the remarried surname and a California birth, and the birthplaces disagree. Added 27 September 2026. Probable
    3. G4 · 2nd-great-grandparents William "Willie" Bernard Walker  ⚭  Nancy Jane Higginbotham 11 April 1857 Columbia, California – 27 Jun 1914 Lolita, Jackson Co., Texas · she 19 Oct 1864 Randolph Co., Alabama – 3 Jan 1953 Lolita. Her parents: Robert Higginbotham and a mother née Avery, on her death certificate S331; in 1880 she was the daughter of the widowed L. Higginbotham, born in South Carolina S812. In 1910 Willie B. Walker headed the Palacios household where Daniel Jonah, 20, lived S406; that makes William B. his probable father. 🆕 His own death certificate gives his birth as 11 April 1857 (the tree had 10 April 1858), his death of pellagra on 27 June 1914 and burial in Lolita Cemetery, and names his parents Daniel Walker and Mary J. Brass or Bross S787. 🆕 In 1900, aged 42 and born California, he headed a household in Precinct 2, Jackson County, with Nancy J., a son Jackson J., 10, born March 1890 (Daniel Jonah's month and year), and his mother Mary J. Daniels, 69 S808. 🆕 The Texas death index agrees: “Walker, Willie Bernard”, Jackson County, 27 June 1914, certificate 12730, and it has no birthplace column S787. Probable
    4. G3 · great-grandparents Daniel Jonah Walker  ⚭  Nettie Ellen "Annie" Cleveland 10 Mar 1890 China Spring, McLennan Co., TX – 30 Jul 1964 Ganado, TX · she 29 Nov 1896 Nebraska – 25 Nov 1971 White Settlement, TX. ⚠️ Her own mother is entered in the tree as Desa Hodges, b. 1888 — which would make the mother eight years old. Not usable as recorded, and not corrected here. Confirmed
    5. G2 · grandfather Clarence Melvin "Melvin" Walker 5 Nov 1920 Lolita, Jackson Co., TX – 23 Jul 1991 · his Social Security NUMIDENT names both parents outright, which is what anchors this chain to a record at all. Confirmed
    6. G1 · mother Clare "LaVonne" Walker Name and relationship only. Living — withheld
  3. G0 · subject Kristin M. Caffey Living — withheld

Three consecutive generations of wives have unknown parents — Mary Beuford, Sarah Martha Hollingsworth, Mary Jane Bross. That is the ordinary shape of American genealogy: women's origins fall out of the record first.

Quarantined — not claimed as ancestry

The Walker line above 1737

The same tree carries the Walker line back fifteen generations, to a George "William" Walker born 1490 in Nottinghamshire, by way of a "Captain Alexander Walker" and a "Sir John Thomas Walker." This page rejects it.

It is reproduced here rather than deleted, on purpose. Deleting it guarantees that somebody rediscovers it in five years, finds it plausible, and publishes it as fact. Shown with its defects named, it stays refuted.

George "William" Walker (1490, Nottinghamshire) ⚭ Gervace Wentworth (1492–1542) → Thomas Alexander "Ruddington" Walker (1513–1574) ⚭ Alexandera Ann Knutton (1513–1575) → Sir John Thomas Walker (Aug 1535 – 23 Jul 1592) ⚭ Lady Isabel Abell (1539 – 23 Jul 1592) → Captain Samuel Thomas Walker (1570 Ruddington – 22 Mar 1622 James City, Virginia) ⚭ Elizabeth Serrill (1585 Southwell, Notts. – 1614 "New Kent, Virginia") → Captain Alexander Walker (1610 "St Peters Parish, New Kent" – 1670, same place) → William Walker (1649 "St Peters Parish, New Kent" – 5 Aug 1723 Henrico, VA) ⚭ Elizabeth Warren → Sylvanus Walker (1686 "St Peters Parish, New Kent" – 31 Dec 1785 Wakefield, Massachusetts) ⚭ Elizabeth Jordan (1671 "Orange, Virginia" – 1760 Wakefield, Massachusetts) → Thomas Walker (1699 Nottoway, VA – 6 Jun 1793) ⚭ Elizabeth Betty Ellis (1720–1798) → [ Thomas Walker 1737–1802 — the last person on this line this page accepts ]

Five independent defects. Any one of them is fatal.

  1. St Peter's Parish, New Kent County, Virginia did not exist yet. New Kent County was formed in 1654 and St Peter's Parish in 1679. The tree places three consecutive births there — 1610, 1649 and 1686 — and a death there in 1614. Two of those predate the county by decades.
  2. A thirteen-year-old father. Sylvanus Walker (b. 1686) cannot be the father of Thomas Walker (b. 1699).
  3. A woman entered as both wife and mother of the same man. Elizabeth Warren (1644–1728) is given as the wife and the mother of William Walker (1649–1723). That is a merge error, not a marriage.
  4. An unexplained migration that nothing supports. Sylvanus Walker is born in Virginia in 1686 and dies at Wakefield, Middlesex County, Massachusetts on 31 December 1785, aged 99 — and his Virginia-born wife dies in the same Massachusetts town. Both places are wrong for a Lunenburg County farming family.
  5. Grafted gentry. "Sir John Thomas Walker," "Lady Isabel Abell," "Captain Samuel Thomas Walker" — titled English gentry attached to a colonial farming line, with a husband and wife in one generation sharing an identical death date (23 July 1592). That is the signature of a copied gateway-ancestor pedigree.

Also rejected, and for the same reason: the same tree makes this family ancestral to Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. This page makes no such claim. The WikiTree profile our accepted portion rests on opens by warning that three different Thomas Walkers are routinely confused, and the Bush connection is attached to a different one S60. Ours is described there as "just a farmer in Lunenburg County."

Suspect but not counted: Thomas Walker (1699–1793) and Elizabeth Betty Ellis (1720–1798) are individually plausible as the parents of Thomas Walker (1737–1802) — but they sit directly beneath a chain that is demonstrably corrupt and nothing independent supports them. They are not included in the count below. What would rescue them: a Lunenburg or Nottoway County, Virginia deed or will naming Thomas Walker (1737–1802) as the son of Thomas Walker.

Daniel Jonah Walker & Nettie Ellen "Annie" Cleveland

Confirmed

Melvin's parents · 1890–1964 · she 1896–1971

  • Named as the parents of Clarence Melvin Walker in his Social Security NUMIDENT entry — a government record, whose parent fields come from his own SS-5 application rather than from any tree S38
  • The same entry gives his birth at Lolita, Texas on 5 November 1920 and his death on 23 July 1991 — both matching the gravestone exactly and independently, which is what makes the parent fields worth trusting S37S38
  • His SSN was issued in Texas S38
  • His 1942 draft card gives his birth as 10 March 1890, McLennan County, Texas S211. In 1950 at Lolita his wife was Ida, 57, and his mother Nancy Walker, 85, widowed, born Alabama, lived with them S210
  • The NUMIDENT's "NETTIE CLEVLAND" is Cleveland. The 1930 census of Precinct 2, Jackson County, Texas enumerates Daniel J. and Nettie E. Walker with their children Mary, Olan, Clarence Melvin and Robert J — the household Melvin was born into at Lolita S87. ⚠️ The index spelling is still what it is, and should not be silently normalised when searching S38
  • He was born 10 March 1890 at China Spring, McLennan County and died 30 July 1964 at Ganado; she was born 29 November 1896 in Nebraska and died 25 November 1971 at White Settlement.
  • ⚠️ Her birth date is not settled. The 29 November 1896 above is the 1930 census reading S87; her 1971 Texas death certificate says 27 November 1897 S145. Two days and one year apart. Item 8 of a death certificate is informant-supplied, seventy-four years after the fact, so neither date is settled and both stay up until a Nebraska birth record decides. Her own card carries the same hedge.
  • Daniel's mother is now found: Nancy Jane Higginbotham Walker Confirmed S331S210. His father is probably William B. “Willie B.” Walker Probable confirm or correct →: in 1910 Daniel, entered as “John”, 20, lived in the Palacios household headed by Willie B. Walker S406. That is a name on a census page, not a birth or death record; William B.'s own 1914 death certificate is now read: born 11 April 1857, died 27 June 1914 at Lolita, son of Daniel Walker and Mary J. Brass or Bross S787; the link to Daniel Jonah still rests on the 1910 census alone (added 27 September 2026). 🆕 The 1900 census of Jackson County has a son Jackson J., 10, born March 1890, in Willie B. Walker's household, Daniel Jonah's birth month and year, but the given name does not match, so it supports the link without settling it S808. Willie's own parents were probably Daniel Green Walker and Mary Jane Bross. Nettie's are now named on a primary record: her death certificate gives her father as Melton Cleaveland and her mother as Maude Melville Warner S145 — neither has a card here yet, and neither is confirmed by a second source. The tree's "Desa Hodges, b. 1888" for Nettie's mother would make the mother eight years old, and is rejected rather than corrected.
  • 🆕 His 1917 draft card, as Daniel Jones Walker of Lolita, gives the same birth, 10 March 1890 at China Springs; he was a general laborer for Milton Cleavland, Nettie's father, and supported a wife and two children S393; added 24 September 2026.
  • 🆕 In 1910, aged 20 and entered as “John”, a farm laborer in his parents' house on Perryman Avenue, Palacios, with his brother Robert T. S406. A 1923 Jackson County birth certificate for a daughter names the father as D. Jona Walker, 33, born McLennan County, and Nettie E., 26, born Nebraska S407; added 24 September 2026.
  • 🆕 The Texas birth index files Melvin's birth (5 November 1920, Jackson County, certificate 61632) as the infant of Jonah Walker, the name he went by Confirmed S943. added 29 September 2026

Nancy Jane Higginbotham Walker

Confirmed

Kristin's 2nd great-grandmother · 1864–1953

  • Born 19 October 1864, Alabama; her father Robert Higginbotham (written “Higginbothan”), her mother's maiden name Avery S331
  • 🆕 Her mother: in the 1880 census of Rockdale Beat, Randolph County, Alabama, “N. J.”, 15, born in Alabama, is listed as the daughter of the widowed head, L. Higginbotham, about 50, born in South Carolina S812. With the certificate's maiden name Avery, that makes her mother L. (Avery) Higginbotham. Her given name, Lucinda C., comes from FamilySearch indexes of the 1870 and 1860 Randolph County censuses, which are independent of the 1880 page and the certificate S841S842: her mother is Lucinda C. (Avery) Higginbotham Confirmed. The 1860 and 1870 entries are index rows whose images have not been read, and the 1860 index gives Lucinda's husband as Wm H. Higginbotham, while Nancy Jane's certificate names her father Robert, so her father is not settled. Added 28 September 2026.
  • Mother of Daniel Jonah Walker: in 1950 at Lolita, Jackson County, Texas, she lived in D. J. Walker's household as his mother, 85, widowed, born Alabama S210
  • Died 3 January 1953 at Lolita, Jackson County, Texas, widowed, as Nancy Jane Walker S331
  • Cause of death, as the certificate states it: carcinoma of the jaw, of one year's duration. She was attended from June 1952 by a doctor at Edna, died at home, and was buried at Lolita Cemetery the next day S331
  • 🆕 Her husband was probably William B. “Willie B.” Walker (1857–1914) Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: in 1900 “Nancy J.”, 35, born Alabama, was his wife in Jackson County S808, and his 1914 death certificate was informed by Mrs. W. B. Walker S787. What is weak: no marriage record has been found. His parents were probably Daniel Green Walker and Mary Jane Bross. Added 27 September 2026
  • 🆕 The 1870 census image, read in full: in Township 19 (Rockdale Beat), Randolph County, Alabama, on 10 June 1870, Nancy, 6, born Alabama, was in the household of Lucinda Higginbotham, 40, born South Carolina, with Alexander, 13, and Benjamin, 12 Confirmed S960. That census states no relationships. Her mother is named by the 1880 census S812. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Probably her in 1930: Nancy J. “Waeker”, 65, a widow living alone in her own home ($1,250) in Justice Precinct 2, Jackson County, Texas Probable confirm or correct → S1011. Evidence: her age, her Alabama birthplace and her mother's South Carolina birthplace agree with the 1880 household S812, and Jackson County is where she lived in 1950 and her last years S331. Weak: the enumerator wrote the surname Waeker or Wacker, not Walker; her father's Georgia birthplace is new and is a clue only. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

Daniel Green Walker & Mary Jane Bross

Probable

Evidence: Willie B. Walker's own 1914 death certificate names his parents as Daniel Walker and Mary J. Brass or Bross; in 1900 his mother, Mary J. Daniels, 69, lived in his household; his brother Edgar's 1941 certificate names Daniel Green Walker and Mary Jane Bross. Weak or missing: Willie's certificate was informed by his widow and omits "Green"; the 1900 link rests on the mother's remarried surname and a California birth; the records disagree on birthplaces; Daniel Green's dates come from an online tree, and by July 1870 Mary Jane was already in David Dannel's household in Louisiana, which does not fit a remarriage after a death in 1873. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Willie B. Walker's parents · he c. 1815–1873 · she 1830 – after 1900

  • Research status: PROBABLE as the parents of William B. “Willie B.” Walker (1857–1914), husband of Nancy Jane Higginbotham Probable confirm or correct →. Evidence: Willie's own 1914 death certificate names his parents as Daniel Walker and Mary J. Brass (or Bross) S787; in 1900 his mother Mary J. Daniels, 69, lived with him in Jackson County, Texas S808; and his brother Edgar's 1941 certificate names Daniel Green Walker and Mary Jane Bross and gives Edgar's birth in California in 1861 S809. What is weak: Willie's certificate was informed by his widow and gives only “Daniel Walker”, without the Green; the 1900 link rests on the mother's remarried surname and a California birth; and the records disagree on birthplaces (Alabama for both parents on Willie's certificate and 1900 census, California on Edgar's, Louisiana for Mary in 1880). Approved by Earl 27 September 2026.
  • 🆕 Mary Jane married again, and earlier than the family tree allows: on 25 July 1870 M. J., 40, born Alabama, keeping house, was in the household of David Dannel, 70, a farmer born Louisiana, at Ward 6, Bossier Parish, Louisiana (P.O. Cotton Valley), with Andrew Dannel, 24, and three Walker boys: Tom, 20, born Mississippi, and Wallice, 14, and Edgar, 10, both born California Probable confirm or correct → S1079. Evidence: her age and Alabama birth, Edgar’s California birth, and the Dannels and Daniels surname she carries in 1880 and 1900. Weak: the census states no relationships, so David is only probably her second husband. Since she was in Louisiana by 1870, the family tree’s death of Daniel Green in California on 14 July 1873 cannot have come before her remarriage: either the couple had parted before 1870, or that death belongs to another Daniel Walker. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 30 September 2026
  • In 1880 she was Mary Dannels, 50, a widow in Angelina County, Texas, with her son Edgar, 18 S809, and in 1900 Mary J. Daniels, “Mother”, born June 1830 in Alabama, a widow and the mother of three children, in Willie B. Walker's household S808.
  • Daniel Green's birth about 1815 in South Carolina and his death on 14 July 1873 at Columbia, Tuolumne County, California, come from an online family tree, not a record. Willie's certificate gives Willie's own birth at Columbia, California, in April 1857 S787, which fits.
  • 🆕 In 1850 the couple, Daniel Walker, 35, born South Carolina, and Mary, 19, born Alabama, with sons John, 2½, and an infant, lived in the Noxubee County, Mississippi, household of the postmaster John Bross S845; a Mississippi marriage index has Daniel Walker marrying Mary Bross S846. added 28 September 2026.
  • 🆕 Her father: probably John Bross Probable confirm or correct →, 49, born South Carolina, whose household she and Daniel shared in 1850 with Matilda Bross, 43 S845. What is weak: the census states no relationships. added 28 September 2026.
  • 🆕 His father: probably Jarrett Walker Probable confirm or correct →, of Union District, South Carolina, whose will of 13 September 1824 names a son Daniel Walker among his children still under age S847. What is weak: nothing yet ties this Daniel to Union District — no middle name, deed or estate division — and Daniel Walker is a common name in South Carolina. The online tree's further step to Thomas Walker of Lunenburg County, Virginia, is still unsupported. See the Walker line. added 28 September 2026.
  • 🆕 Probably Daniel Green in California: in July 1860 Danl Walker, 45, a miner born South Carolina, was at Columbia, Tuolumne County Probable confirm or correct → S1067, and in July 1870 Daniel Walker, 56, a miner born South Carolina, was still at Columbia S1068. Evidence: age and birthplace agree with 1850 S845, and Columbia is where the family tree puts his death in 1873. Weak: he is alone with other miners in both years, and nothing on either page names his wife or children. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Probably Mary Jane in 1860, with the boys, while Daniel was in California: M. J. Walker, 30, a farmer born Mississippi, headed her own household at Ward 3, Claiborne Parish, Louisiana (P.O. Wiseville), with J. T., 12, D. G., 10, W. B., 6, and E. G., 1, next door to John Bross, 35, born South Carolina, and M. R. Bross, 65 Probable confirm or correct → S1071. Evidence: her age, the sons J. T. and the infant of 1850 S845, and the Bross family next door. Weak: initials only, no relationships stated, and Mississippi rather than the Alabama of 1850 S845. W. B., 6, born Mississippi about 1854, does not agree with the 11 April 1857 California birth on Willie’s death certificate S787, so that date is left as it is. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

Clarence Melvin "Melvin" Walker

TexasConfirmed

Kristin's maternal grandfather · 1920–1991

  • Born 5 November 1920, Lolita, Jackson County, Texas; died 23 July 1991, aged 70 S37S38
  • Buried Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas — the same cemetery as his wife, thirty-one years later S37
  • 🆕 His obituary, indexed under his own name, gives his death at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, and his last home at Richland Hills Probable confirm or correct → S767. Only the index has been read, not the clipping; its years are “about”, worked out from his age, and it is the same obituary as S295. added 26 September 2026.
  • 🆕 His birth was registered with the state as the unnamed infant of Jonah Walker, Jackson County, 5 November 1920, Texas birth certificate 61632 Confirmed S943. added 29 September 2026
More · 4 further facts
  • He went by his middle name. "Walker, Clarence" in the indexes and "Melvin Walker" in the family's own obituary text are one man — which is the whole reason this identification took a record rather than a search S36S37
  • US Army Air Corps, Second World War. Dorothy's obituary: "After her graduation from high school, she met Melvin Walker and shortly after they were married. Upon his discharge from the Army Air Corp, they moved to Ft. Worth" S36
  • Son of Daniel Jonah Walker and Nettie Ellen Cleveland — from his Social Security NUMIDENT entry, a government record whose parent fields come from his own SS-5 application S38, and from the 1930 census of Precinct 2, Jackson County, which enumerates the whole household S87
  • Father of three daughters, all born in Tarrant County and all named in Dorothy's obituary sixty years later S39S36
⚠️ A same-name grave that is not his child. An infant "Clarence M Walker, 6 January 1944 – 2 December 1944" is also buried at Mount Olivet, Fort Worth. The name fits, the cemetery fits and the date would fit a first child born before the move. No record connects him to this couple, and he is not attached here — recorded so the next reader does not adopt him on the strength of a name Not found.

Clare La Vonne Walker

LivingConfirmed

Kristin's mother · known as LaVonne Danielson

  • Born 4 May 1947, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas S39. Walker is her maiden name, not a married surname S24.
  • Two names, two marriages — and they are not an index variant. She married Thomas Alan Caffey on 7 June 1969 at Tarrant County S127; that marriage was dissolved 3 October 1980 in Travis County S128, when Kristin was five. She married Wayne Allen Danielson on 10 July 1993, Travis County S129, and was widowed on 31 October 2017 S297. Every Danielson record postdates July 1993 and every Caffey or Walker record precedes it — which is what settles it. Danielson — the name on the photographs below — is her present surname, carried from that second marriage. The heading and the captions are the same woman.
  • "Clare" and "La Vonne" are both hers, and the middle name is the one the family uses. Her mother was Dorothy La Vonne Peters, who passed that middle name down S39 — which is why Texas indexes file her under a first name nobody calls her. That finding stands independently of the remarriage above; both are true at once S129.
More · 3 further facts
  • Her parents were Clarence Melvin "Melvin" Walker and Dorothy La Vonne Peters. Both are deceased and both appear in full below S36S39
  • Her children are Bradley Neal Caffey and Kristin, both by Thomas Alan Caffey and both named as such by the state birth index S126
  • Her mother's 2022 obituary names her among the surviving daughters as "LaVonne Danielson of Austin, TX" S36 — the published family record using the same two names this card does.
Why this card now carries dates. On 21 September 2026 Earl set the rule this page runs on today: living adults are published in full, and only minors are held back — named, and nothing else. She is a living adult, so her record is given like anyone else's, each line cited. What this card said before: until 13 September 2026 her living status was unrecorded and her half of Pedigree Chart II was four empty boxes; on 17 September the family named the second marriage but supplied no date, place or husband's name, and none was published. Records have now supplied all three.
Her second husband was the University of Texas dean. Wayne Allen Danielson (b. 6 December 1929, Burlington, Iowa; d. 31 October 2017, aged 87) was professor of journalism and the second dean of the UT College (then School) of Communication, 1969–1979, now the Moody College; earlier dean of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina S297. Earl confirmed on 23 September 2026 that he is the same man S24, and his obituary settles it independently: it says he "courted and married LaVonne Walker Caffey", is survived by "his wife LaVonne," and lists as stepchildren "Brad (Erin) Caffey and Kristin (Earl) Proeger both of Austin" S297.

  • Born 6 December 1929, Burlington, Iowa, to Arthur Leroy and Bessie Danielson S297
  • B.A. in journalism, University of Iowa, 1952; M.A. 1953 and Ph.D. 1957, Stanford S297
  • Dean of journalism at the University of North Carolina, then dean of the University of Texas College of Communication, 1969–1979 S297
  • First wife Beverly Kinsell (d. 1988); his children Matt, Ben, Grace and Paul S297
  • Married LaVonne Walker (Caffey) on 10 July 1993, Travis County, Texas S129; stepfather of Brad Caffey and Kristin S297

Bradley Neal Caffey

TexasLivingConfirmed

Kristin's brother · b. 1972

  • Born 23 February 1972, Travis County, Texas. The Texas Birth Index names his father as Thomas Alan Caffey and his mother as Clare LaVonne Walker S126 — the same two parents the same index gives for Kristin three years later. That is what makes him her full brother, and it is a state record, not a surname match.
  • Corroborated independently: his grandmother Dorothy LaVonne Walker's 2022 obituary lists him and Kristin in a single sentence as grandchildren of the same woman S36. Two sources, neither derived from the other. Confirmed
  • Married Erin Helm on 23 August 2003, Travis County, Texas — three separate indexes agree on the date S131. Her own ancestry is a different family and out of scope for this record, which is why it is not worked here.

Anderson High School, Austin — the 1990 volume's index prints "Caffey, Bradley N 'Brad' (12)" directly above "Caffey, Kristin (9)" on the same page S132: the two of them at one school in one year, a senior and a freshman, which is exactly what a 1972 and a 1975 birth predict. ⚠️ A 1987 Austin yearbook also indexes him, but which school that volume is has not been verified and is not claimed here.
  • His children are Preston Caffey and Scarlett Caffey, named in their great-grandmother's obituary S36. Their ages are not established from any record read here, so this page publishes no dates, ages or schools for them. Earl chose on 25 September 2026 to publish two items that show them in full: the obituary page image itself, and a 2015 family portrait of Brad and Erin with two children, below. The portrait's uploader tagged only Brad and Erin, so the children in it are Probable as Preston and Scarlett.
  • He is already a person in Earl's own Ancestry tree, where the relationship graph labels him brother-in-law. He was new to this research corpus, not to the tree — which is a different claim and is worth keeping straight.
Were there other children? Probably not, and "probably" is the honest word. Across the whole Caffey record cluster and the full obituary survivor list, only Brad and Kristin appear as children of Thomas Alan Caffey and Clare LaVonne Walker. That is absence of evidence — but from two sources that each had reason to name everyone, which is why it is Probable confirm or correct → and not Confirmed S126.
He is living, and this page publishes living adults in full — Earl's rule of 21 September 2026. His residence history, which the records also supply down to city and year, stays in the research corpus: that is an editorial judgement about what belongs in a genealogy, not a privacy rule.

Kristin M. Caffey Proeger

TexasLiving

Wife of the subject · the other half of this record

  • Born 8 April 1975 in Austin, Texas, to Thomas Alan Caffey and Clare LaVonne Walker — the Texas Birth Index names both parents S126, and the family gives the city S24. Confirmed
  • Her brother is Bradley Neal Caffey (b. 1972), the same two parents on the same state index three years earlier S126. They appear together as grandchildren in Dorothy Walker's 2022 obituary S36. No third child is evidenced.
  • Married Earl Proeger in a ceremony on Guam, 1994; the marriage was registered in Travis County, Texas (Texas Marriage Index, 25 Jun 1994) S2, their longtime home, because Texas allowed them to marry by affirmation rather than oath — a Quaker scruple Guam made no accommodation for (Earl Proeger’s account, 22 Sep 2026 S24).
  • Maiden name Caffey, established from the Travis County marriage record of 1994 S2 — the same record that names Earl. Confirmed
  • Her father was Thomas Alan Caffey (1946–2016) of Austin, whose obituary names "his daughter Kristin Proeger and her husband Earl of Austin" S31. Her mother is Clare La Vonne Walker, living S24.

  • Three children with Earl — Maia, and the twins Evelyn and Axel. Their names are all this page publishes about them: no dates, no birth years, no ages, no schools, no places. Earl's rule of 21 September 2026 lets a minor be named and nothing more, and that is exactly what is done here.
Her ancestry is charted at Kristin's ancestors and run to full depth in the deep lines. Nothing on this card is new to the page: every statement on it is drawn from the records already cited above.

Nettie Ellen Cleveland

ArkansasProbable

Evidence: Her 1971 death certificate names her parents Melton Cleaveland and Maude Warner. Weak or missing: Her birth date is disputed (1897 vs 1896), and no Nebraska birth record has been found. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Kristin's great-grandmother · 1897–1971

  • Father: Melton Cleaveland Confirmed
  • Born 27 November 1897 in Nebraska — as given on her death certificate S145
  • ⚠️ Her birth date is not settled. The certificate says 27 November 1897; the 1930 census reading already on this site says 29 November 1896 S87. Two days and one year apart. Item 8 of a death certificate is informant-supplied, seventy-four years after the fact, so neither date is settled and both stay here until a Nebraska birth record decides. The bare 1889 formerly shown on this card came from a user-contributed FamilySearch tree S12 and is superseded.
  • Died 25 November 1971 at 6:00 a.m. in White Settlement Hospital, White Settlement, Tarrant County, Texas, after a stay of one month S145. The certificate is indexed in the Texas death index as Nettie E Walker; the family tree carries this death from that index. The married name is from her second husband, Eddie Guy Walker (23 September 1898 – 1 May 1976; “Eddie G.” in the 1950 Sansom Park census S226), who is not Daniel Jonah Walker
  • Buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, on 27 November 1971 — the same cemetery as her son S145
  • Daughter of Melton Cleaveland and Maude Melville Warner — named on a primary record for the first time; the sheet spells the surname Cleaveland, with the a S145
  • Last lived at 5717 Terrace Trail, Sansom Park, Tarrant County; occupation housewife S145
  • Cause of death uremia, from renal shutdown, from post-traumatic shock three weeks earlier; an autopsy was performed S145
  • ⚠️ What the trauma was is not recorded. The certificate names post-traumatic shock as the underlying cause, yet every injury field is blank — accident, suicide, homicide, the time, the manner and the place of injury are all left empty. The certificate contradicts itself by omission.
  • ⚠️ The certificate is filed under her married name, Nettie E. Walker, and names no husband — the form has no spouse field. She is identified as this Nettie on the Cleaveland maiden surname, the initial E. for Ellen, the Nebraska birthplace and the shared Mount Olivet burial, not on a statement in the document.
  • Wife of Daniel Jonah Walker S12
  • Mother of Clarence Melvin "Melvin" Walker S12
  • In 1900, aged 3, she was entered as a granddaughter in Charles E. Smith's household at Fullerton, Nance County, Nebraska S213
  • In 1910, aged 13, in Brazoria County, Texas, with her father Milton Cleveland and brother Edgar; Milton's wife Desa, 22, married one year with no children, was her stepmother S224. In 1932 she and Daniel J. kept house at 3005 E 4th, Fort Worth S227
  • 🆕 In 1940 at 2605 Hale Street, Fort Worth, aged 42, the wife of E. G. Walker, with her daughter Mary Elen, 14; she was a seamstress on the WPA sewing project S394; added 24 September 2026.
  • 🆕 On her daughter's birth certificate of 10 March 1923 she is 26, born Nance Co., Nebraska, the mother of five children, four living S407. Age 26 fits the 1896 birth year of the 1930 census, not the 1897 of her death certificate; the date stays open. added 24 September 2026.
  • 🆕 She married E. G. Walker at Denton on 14 March 1940, under the name “Mrs. Nettie E. Jerkins” S558. That name shows a marriage to a Mr. Jerkins, after Daniel Jonah Walker and before E. G. Walker, which was not known before; his given name is not yet found. added 25 September 2026.
  • 🆕 E. G. Walker is very probably Eddie Guy Walker Probable confirm or correct →. The 1942 draft card of Eddie G. Walker gives his birth as 23 September 1898 at San Marcos, Texas, his home as 1310 College, Fort Worth, his work at Bewley Mills, and his contact as “Mrs. E. G. Walker” S710. His age fits E. G., 41, of the 1940 census S394. What is weak: the card does not give his wife's name, and 1310 College is not the 2605 Hale Street of April 1940, so the match rests on the initials, the city and the age. added 26 September 2026.

Maude Melville Warner

Confirmed

Mother of Nettie Ellen Cleveland

  • Research status: CONFIRMED — added 24 September 2026 from her daughter's death certificate and a Nebraska marriage index; entered in the family tree the same day.
  • First wife of Melton Cleaveland; married 4 February 1896, Belgrade, Nance County, Nebraska
  • Mother of Nettie Ellen Cleveland, whose 1971 death certificate names her S145; she is the Nebraska-born first wife implied by the 1910 census, where Milton has remarried S224
  • Also named as mother on her son Edgar's 1929 marriage record; her dates have not been found
  • 🆕 The Nance County marriage register names her father as Clifford Warner. She was 18 and born in Nebraska when she married Milton Cleavland at Belgrade on 4 February 1896 S463. added 25 September 2026.

Charles Edgar Cleveland

Confirmed

Father of Melton Cleaveland · born about 1846

  • Research status: CONFIRMED as Melton's father — Melton's 1896 Nance County, Nebraska marriage register, read from the image, names his parents as C. E. Cleavland and V. J. Smith S463; the 1880 census of Penn Township, Cass County, Michigan has Chas., 34, and Janette, 36, with Milton, 6, born in California S465; and Melton's 1939 death certificate names his father as Charles E., born in Michigan S464. The full given names come from the printed Descendants of Moses Cleveland, p.1939 S467
  • Father of Melton Cleaveland, and so great-grandfather of Nettie Ellen Cleveland

Hoit” (the surname is hard to read), married Frank Hodges, 54, born in New York, at Belgrade, Nance County, Nebraska, on 18 April 1894. The register names her father as Charles Cleavland, and the witnesses were her brother Milton Cleavland and Lottie Cleavland S706. She is the Anna J., 11, of the 1880 household S465, and the record puts the family in Nance County two years before Milton's own wedding there S463. added 26 September 2026.
  • 🆕 His parents: Solomon Cleveland, who died in California township, Branch County, Michigan, on 22 October 1845, and Mary Malinda (Thompson) Elliott, a widow when she married him in New York in 1834 Probable confirm or correct →. The printed Cleveland genealogy enters Solomon on p. 1438 S822 and numbers Charles Edgar as his son on p. 1939 S467, and a FamilySearch index of a Nebraska marriage of Charles E. Victoria Janette Smith

Confirmed

Mother of Melton Cleaveland · born about 1844

  • Research status: CONFIRMED as Melton's mother — his 1896 marriage register names her V. J. Smith S463, and she is Janette, 36, in the family's 1880 Cass County, Michigan census S465. Her full name and 19 March 1844 birth come from the printed Descendants of Moses Cleveland S467

It is the first record made in her lifetime that puts a girl of her age in Jeremiah Smith's home Probable confirm or correct →, but it gives initials only and states no relationships. added 26 September 2026.

Full record

Jeremiah Smith

Probable

Evidence: The printed Descendants of Moses Cleveland (p.1939), which names Victoria Janette Smith as his daughter; a Jeremiah Smith in Perry Township, Wood County, Ohio, in the 1840 census and the 1850 agriculture schedule; his son Lucien B. Smith's 1913 marriage return and 1922 death certificate (Jeremiah born New York); the 1860 Leroy, Michigan census with a V., 16, born Ohio, in his home, and the 1870 census with Lucien. Weak or missing: Only the compiled genealogy names Victoria as his daughter; the 1860 census gives initials only and states no relationships, and the Ohio records are a common name. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Father of Victoria Janette Smith

  • Research status: PROBABLE — the printed Descendants of Moses Cleveland, p.1939, no. 11632, names Victoria Janette Smith (born 19 March 1844, Ohio) as the daughter of Jeremiah Smith and Patience Kittle S467. A compiled genealogy; the 1860 Leroy census has a V., 16, born in Ohio, in his home (below), but it gives initials only and states no relationships
  • Father of Victoria Janette Smith; husband of Patience Kittle
  • Birth, marriage and death dates not yet found
  • 🆕 In 1840 a Jeremiah Smith, 30 to 39, with a woman in her twenties and a girl under 5, lived in Perry Township, Wood County, Ohio S651. In 1850 he farmed there, 55 acres improved and 25 unimproved, beside the same neighbours S652. Victoria was born in Wood County about 1844, so this fits. Probable confirm or correct → What is weak: Jeremiah Smith is a common name and neither record names a wife or child. If you know more, use “Add to this record”. added 26 September 2026.
  • 🆕 His son Lucien B. Smith was born in Ohio on 30 September 1846 and died in Leroy Township, Ingham County, Michigan, on 2 April 1922. The death certificate says Jeremiah was born in New York S700. Lucien's 1913 marriage return names his parents as Jeremiah Smith and Patience Kettle S699, and a daughter, Louisa Hiscock, died in 1883 with the same parents named S701. added 26 September 2026.
  • 🆕 In 1860 J. Smith, 54, born in New York, lived at Leroy, Ingham County, Michigan, with V., 16, a girl born in Ohio, and L., 18, L., 13, and E., 4; no wife was in the house S713. In 1870 Jeremiah, 64, born in New York and blind, was still at Leroy, with Lucien B., 24, a farmer born in Ohio, Nancy M., 20, the baby Della A., and Edmund D., 15 S714. V. fits Victoria, born in Ohio in March 1844, and L., 13, fits Lucien Probable confirm or correct →. The 1860 census gives initials only and states no relationships. added 26 September 2026.

Patience Kittle

Probable

Evidence: The printed Descendants of Moses Cleveland (p.1939), which names Victoria Janette Smith as her daughter; her son Lucien B. Smith's 1913 Michigan marriage return (Jeremiah Smith and Patience Kettle) and her daughter Louisa Hiscock's 1883 death return (Jeremiah and Patience Smith). Weak or missing: Only the compiled genealogy ties her to Victoria; Lucien's 1922 death certificate calls her Mary Kettel. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Mother of Victoria Janette Smith

  • Research status: PROBABLE — the printed Descendants of Moses Cleveland, p.1939, no. 11632, names Victoria Janette Smith as the daughter of Jeremiah Smith and Patience Kittle S467. A compiled genealogy; two later records name her as the mother of other children (below), but none names Victoria
  • Mother of Victoria Janette Smith; wife of Jeremiah Smith
  • Birth, marriage and death dates not yet found
  • 🆕 Two Michigan records made after her death name her as a mother. In 1913 her son Lucien B. Clifford Warner

Confirmed

Father of Maude Melville Warner

  • Research status: CONFIRMED — named as Maud Warner's father in her 4 February 1896 marriage entry in the Nance County, Nebraska register, read from the image S463. Her mother's name is left blank on the page
  • Father of Maude Melville Warner, and so great-grandfather of Nettie Ellen Cleveland
  • Birth, marriage and death dates not yet found; his wife was probably Ella Shreckengost (below)
  • 🆕 Two records of his children name Clifford Warner's wife as Ella Shreckengost: the 22 April 1908 Butler County marriage of his daughter Dessa Warner, born in Greeley County, Nebraska S682, and the 1956 Spokane death certificate of his son Claude Dee Warner, born in Nebraska on 24 May 1884 S683. Probable confirm or correct → Evidence: both records name Clifford Warner and Ella Shreckengost, and Greeley County borders Nance County, where Maud married in 1896. What is weak: Maud's own marriage entry leaves her mother blank, so that this Clifford is Maud's father rests on the name and the neighbouring county, not on a record naming them together. If you know more, use “Add to this record”. added 26 September 2026.
  • 🆕 His parents: John Warner, a miller at Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, who died in 1858, and Marancy Warner Probable confirm or correct →. In 1870 Clifford, 19, born in Illinois, lived at Winslow with the widow Marancy Warner, 46 S828; she had married John Warner in Stephenson County in 1841 S825, and John was at Winslow with her in 1850 S826. In 1880, at Cedar Precinct, Boone County, Nebraska, Clifford, 28, farmer, gives his father's birthplace as New York S824. What is weak: no record names Clifford's parents; the 1870 census has no relationship column, and in 1880 he gives his mother's birthplace as Massachusetts, where Marancy said New York. added 28 September 2026.
  • 🆕 His wife Ella was married, not widowed, in the 1900 census of Rising City, Butler County, Nebraska Confirmed S977, and a widow in the 1910 census there Confirmed S978, so Clifford probably died before April 1910. No death record for him has been read. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Probably him in 1900: Cliff Warner, 48, an Illinois native of April 1852 whose father was from Pennsylvania and mother from New York, a railroad labourer, married 23 years but with no wife in the household, was in Brayton Township, Greeley County, Nebraska, with his son Claude, 16, born May 1884 in Nebraska Probable confirm or correct → S1062. Evidence: Claude’s birth month and state match Claude Dee Warner’s S683, and Dessa was born in Greeley County S682. Weak: Ella is not named, and the 1880 census gave his mother’s birthplace as Massachusetts. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

Solomon Cleveland

Probable

Evidence: The printed Genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland Families (1899) enters him as Solomon Cleveland, died 22 October 1845 in Branch County, Michigan, husband of Mrs. Mary Malinda (Thompson) Elliott, and numbers Charles Edgar as his son; a FamilySearch index of Charles E. Cleveland's Nebraska marriage names his parents Solomen Cleveland and Mary Thompson. Weak or missing: The book is compiled and derivative and the Nebraska entry is an index with no image; no original record (1850 census, probate, guardianship) has been read, and Charles, born about 1846, fits a father who died in October 1845 only if born in 1845 or after his death. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Probable father of Charles Edgar Cleveland · died 1845

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. Cleveland's parents as Solomen Cleveland and Mary Thompson S823. What is weak: the book is a compiled, derivative source, and no original record (the 1850 Michigan census with the widow and children, a probate of his 1845 estate, a guardianship) has been read; the Nebraska entry is an index with no image. Charles, born about 1846, fits a father who died in October 1845 only if he was born in 1845 or after his father's death
  • Probable father of Charles Edgar Cleveland. Husband of Mary Malinda (Thompson) Elliott
  • Married Mrs. Mary Malinda (Thompson) Elliott at Lowville, New York, on 11 February 1834, or at Fowler, New York, on 14 April 1834; the book gives both S822

  • 🆕 Probably him in 1840: Solomon Cleveland, 30–39, heading a household of six in Diana, Lewis County, New York, with Enoch Cleveland, 50–59, on the line above Probable confirm or correct → S1003. Evidence: his age, a Lewis County home near Lowville, where he married in 1834, and an Enoch next door, the name the book gives his father S822. Weak: 1840 names only the heads and states no relationships. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Another son: Albert E. Cleveland, 58, born in St. Lawrence County, New York, of Greeley County, Nebraska, married the widow Anna C. Shaffer in Hamilton County, Nebraska, on 13 November 1895. The record gives his father as Solomon Cleveland and his mother’s maiden name as Mary Thompson Confirmed S1139.

Mary Malinda Thompson

Probable

Evidence: The printed Cleveland genealogy (1899) gives Solomon Cleveland's wife as Mrs. Mary Malinda (Thompson) Elliott and numbers Charles Edgar as Solomon's son; a FamilySearch index of Charles E. Weak or missing: The book is derivative, the page with her birth and her children continues overleaf and has not been read, and the Nebraska entry is an index with no image; her birth and death dates are unsourced. Probable mother of Charles Edgar Cleveland

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. The printed Genealogy of the Cleveland and Cleaveland Families (1899) gives Solomon Cleveland's wife as “Mrs. Mary Malinda (Thompson) Elliott” S822 and numbers Charles Edgar as Solomon's son S467; a FamilySearch index of a Nebraska marriage names Charles E. • Probable mother of Charles Edgar Cleveland. Wife of Solomon Cleveland
  • She was a widow, Mrs. Elliott, when she married Solomon Cleveland at Lowville, New York, on 11 February 1834, or at Fowler, New York, on 14 April 1834 S822. The book's entry begins her birthplace (“b. Wightford, …”) and runs onto the next page

Evidence: The 1880 census of Boone County, Nebraska lists Clifford Warner's wife Ella, 22, born Illinois, with their daughter Maud, whose parents are both entered as Illinois-born; Clifford's children Dessa (1908 marriage) and Claude Dee (1956 death certificate) give his wife as Ella Shreckengost. Weak or missing: The census gives Ella's relationship to Clifford, not to Maud; Maud's own 1896 marriage entry leaves her mother blank; the middle name Andora and her birth and death dates are unsourced. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Probable mother of Maude Melville Warner

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. The 1880 census of Cedar Precinct, Boone County, Nebraska, read from the image, lists Clifford Warner, 28, his wife Ella, 22, born in Illinois, and their daughter Maud, born in Nebraska, whose parents are both entered as born in Illinois S824; the 1908 marriage of Clifford's daughter Dessa S682 and the 1956 death certificate of his son Claude Dee S683 give his wife as Ella Shreckengost. What is weak: the census gives Ella's relationship to Clifford, not to Maud; Maud's own 1896 marriage entry leaves her mother blank S463; and the maiden name rests on the records of Maud's brother and sister
  • Probable mother of Maude Melville Warner. Wife of Clifford Warner. Named as mother of Dessa Warner, born in Greeley County, Nebraska S682, and of Claude Dee Warner, born in Nebraska on 24 May 1884 S683
  • Born about 1858 in Illinois (22 in June 1880), to parents both born in Pennsylvania S824
  • The family tree's middle name “Andora”, birth on 12 October 1857 at Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, and death on 20 March 1940 at Schuyler, Colfax County, Nebraska, are not on any record read and are not published here as fact
  • 🆕 In 1900 Ella A. Warner, born in October 1858 in Illinois, married 24 years, mother of seven children, five living, rented at Rising City, Butler County, Nebraska, with Elsie B., Marion H. and Martha A. • 🆕 In April 1930, a widow of 72, she lived with her daughter Martha and son-in-law Alden R. Moural in Rogers precinct, Colfax County, Nebraska Confirmed S1090

John Warner

Probable

Evidence: Clifford Warner, born about 1851 in Illinois, lived with the widow Marancy Warner at Winslow in 1870; an index has John Warner marrying Muraney Elexander in Stephenson County in 1841; John, a New York-born miller, was at Winslow with Marany in 1850; Clifford's 1880 entry gives his father's birthplace as New York. Weak or missing: No record names Clifford's father: he was born after the 1850 census, John's Find a Grave list of children omits him, and FamilySearch has nothing naming his parents; the birth date and death date come only from Find a Grave. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Probable father of Clifford Warner · about 1815–1858

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. Clifford, born about 1851 in Illinois, is with the widow Marancy Warner at Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, in 1870 S828; an Illinois marriage index has John Warner marrying “Muraney Elexander” in Stephenson County on 17 May 1841 S825; in 1850 John Warner, 35, a miller born in New York, was at Winslow with Marany and their children S826; and Clifford's 1880 census entry gives his father's birthplace as New York S824. What is weak: no record names Clifford's father. Clifford was born after the 1850 census, the Find a Grave memorial's list of John's children leaves him out S827, and FamilySearch has no record naming his parents
  • Probable father of Clifford Warner. Husband of Marancy Warner
  • In the 1850 census of the Town of Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, enumerated 2 October 1850: John Warner, 35, miller, real estate $500, born New York; Marany; Araminta, 7, born Illinois; John, 5; Frederick, 3; Lois, 61, born New York; and Olive Alexander, 62, born Massachusetts S826
  • Born about 1815 in New York (35 in 1850) S826. His Find a Grave memorial gives 13 November 1816 – 5 January 1858, buried at Rock Lily Cemetery, Winslow, with his wife Marancy and children Araminta Ladd, John and Charles A. S827; a memorial, supporting only. The family tree's birthplace, Worcester, Otsego County, New York, has no source
  • 🆕 His son Charles Warner, born in Illinois about 1853, married Mary E. Maurer at Fremont, Nebraska, on 26 November 1878; the record names his parents as John and Marency Alexander Confirmed S1138.

Full record

Marancy Warner

Probable

Evidence: The 1870 census of Winslow, Illinois has a two-person household of Marancy Warner, 46, born New York, and Clifford, 19, born Illinois; she was in John Warner's household at Winslow in 1850. Weak or missing: The 1870 census has no relationship column; Clifford's 1880 entry gives his mother's birthplace as Massachusetts, not New York; the maiden name Alexander rests on an unread index ('Muraney Elexander') and on her son Charles's statement in his 1878 marriage record, and her birth and death dates are unsourced; the 1900 Knox County 'Marancy Ballet(?)', mother-in-law of the widow Mary Warner, has a hard-to-read surname and 'mother of 1 child'. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Probable mother of Clifford Warner · born about 1824

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. The 1870 census of Winslow, Stephenson County, Illinois, read from the image, has a two-person household: Marancy Warner, 46, keeping house, born New York, and Clifford, 19, farm labourer, born Illinois S828. What is weak: the 1870 census has no relationship column, and Clifford's own 1880 entry gives his mother's birthplace as Massachusetts, not New York S824. Her maiden name “Alexander” rests on an Illinois marriage index reading “Muraney Elexander” S825, which has not been read, and on her son Charles’s 1878 marriage record S1138, where it is his statement, not hers
  • Probable mother of Clifford Warner. Wife, then widow, of John Warner
  • In 1850 “Marany” is in John Warner's household at Winslow with Araminta, 7, John, 5, and Frederick, 3 S826; John's Find a Grave memorial names his wife as Marancy S827
  • Born about 1824 in New York (46 in July 1870) S828. The family tree's birth on 27 February 1824 at Henderson, Jefferson County, New York, and death on 11 June 1901 at Creighton, Knox County, Nebraska, are not on any record read; a 1900 “Marancy Ballet” may be another woman
  • 🆕 Probably her in 1880: Marancy Warner, “Mother”, 57, a widow born New York, in the household of John Ladd and his wife Mintie, 35, born Illinois, in Sheridan Precinct, Washington County, Nebraska Probable confirm or correct → S1018. Evidence: her rare name, an age that fits 46 in 1870 S828, and a daughter of the right age: Araminta was 7 in the 1850 Winslow household S826. Weak: the census gives Mintie no maiden name. It puts her mother's birth in Massachusetts and her own in New York. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Perhaps her in 1900: Marancy Ballet(?), 76, born February 1824 in New York, father born New York, mother born Connecticut, widowed, was the mother-in-law of the widow Mary Warner, 49, on Mary’s farm in Miller Township, Knox County, Nebraska, with Mary’s four daughters, whose father was born in Illinois Probable confirm or correct → S1063. Evidence: the rare name, a birth in February 1824 that fits the family tree’s 27 February 1824 and her age of 46 in 1870, and Knox County, where the tree puts her death in 1901. Weak: the surname is hard to read, which of her sons was Mary’s husband is not stated, and “mother of 1 child” does not fit four children in 1850 and 1870. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Her son Charles Warner, 25, born in Illinois, married Mary E. Maurer at Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska, on 26 November 1878; the marriage record gives his parents as John Warner and Marency Alexander Confirmed S1138. It is the first record read from the image that gives her maiden name.

Lucinda C. (Avery) Higginbotham

Confirmed

Mother of Nancy Jane Higginbotham Walker · born about 1830

  • Research status: CONFIRMED as Nancy Jane Higginbotham Walker's mother — in the 1880 census of Rockdale Beat, Randolph County, Alabama, read from the image, “N. J.” Higginbotham, 15, born Alabama, is the daughter of the widowed head, L. Higginbotham, born South Carolina S812, and Nancy Jane's 1953 death certificate gives her mother's maiden name as Avery S331. Her given name, Lucinda, comes from FamilySearch indexes of the 1870 and 1860 Randolph County censuses, which are independent of both the 1880 page and the certificate S841S842. Confirmed 28 September 2026.
  • Mother of Nancy Jane Higginbotham Walker (1864–1953)
  • Born about 1830, South Carolina: 50 or 51 in 1880, born South Carolina to parents born there S812; the 1860 and 1870 indexes also give about 1830, South Carolina S841S842. An online tree's birth in 1827 at Anderson, South Carolina, and its death in 1890 “probably Alabama” are on no record read, and its spelling “Avary” is not the certificate's “Avery”
  • 🆕 In 1870, as Lucinda Higgenbotham, born about 1830 in South Carolina, she headed a household in Randolph County, Alabama, with Alexander, Benjamin and Nancy, by a FamilySearch index of that census S841. added 28 September 2026.
  • 🆕 In 1860 Lucinda C. Higinbothen, born about 1830 in South Carolina, was in the household of Wm H. Higginbothum, Northern Division, Randolph County, by a FamilySearch index of that census S842. Her husband is not settled: Nancy Jane's certificate names her father as Robert Higginbotham S331, and by 1880 Lucinda was a widow S812. Both census pages have since been read from the images S842S960. added 28 September 2026.
  • 🆕 The 1870 census image confirms the index: Lucinda Higginbotham, 40, keeping house, with a personal estate of $300, born South Carolina, with Alexander, Benjamin and Nancy, 6, at Township 19, Randolph County (post office Wedowee), on 10 June 1870 Confirmed S960. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 The 1860 census image confirms the index: Lucinda C., 30, a seamstress, born South Carolina, at Rockdale, Randolph County, with Wm H. Higginbotham, 35, farmer, born Georgia, and six boys, J. F. M., 12, born South Carolina, and C. C., R. L., Alexr, B. D. and E. H., born Alabama Confirmed S842. Wm H. as her husband Probable confirm or correct →: Evidence: she is listed in the wife's place after him. Weak: the 1860 census states no relationships, and Nancy Jane's certificate names her father Robert S331. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 In 1850, as Lucinda C. Higginbotham, 21, she was in the Beat 7, Randolph County, household of Wm Higginbotham, 25, farmer, born Georgia, with John, 2, and C. C., 1 Confirmed S995. Wm as her husband is now in two censuses, 1850 and 1860 Probable confirm or correct → S995S842. Weak: neither census states relationships, and Nancy Jane's certificate names her father Robert S331. The 1850 page gives her birthplace as Georgia only by a ditto mark; South Carolina, from three later censuses, is kept. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

John Bross

Probable

Evidence: In the 1850 Noxubee County, Mississippi, census, read from the image, Daniel Walker, 35, and Mary, 19, with two small sons, live in postmaster John Bross's household; a Mississippi marriage index has Daniel Walker marrying Mary Bross. Weak or missing: The census states no relationships; the marriage index and the son Edgar Bross Walker support her maiden name, not her father; his 1801 Charleston birth is on no record read. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Probable father of Mary Jane Bross · born about 1801

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. In the 1850 census of Noxubee County, Mississippi, read from the image, Daniel Walker, 35, born South Carolina, and Mary Walker, 19, born Alabama, with two small sons, live in the household of John Bross, the postmaster S845; a Mississippi marriage index has Daniel Walker marrying Mary Bross S846, and a son was named Edgar Bross Walker S809. What is weak: the census states no relationships, and the marriage index and the son's name support her maiden name, not her father Probable confirm or correct →
  • Probable father of Mary Jane Bross, of Daniel Green Walker & Mary Jane Bross
  • In 1850 at Noxubee County, Mississippi (enumerated 28 August): John Bross, 49, post master, real estate $800, born South Carolina; Matilda, 43, born South Carolina; John W., 23; Lavenia, 16, born Alabama; then Daniel Walker, 35; Mary Walker, 19; John Walker, 2½, and an infant Walker, one month, both born Mississippi S845
  • Born about 1801, South Carolina, by his 1850 age S845. An online tree's birth on 4 July 1801 at Charleston and its death before 1860 are on no record read
  • 🆕 Appointed postmaster at Macon, Noxubee County, on 2 October 1849 Confirmed S1014. The 1850 census there calls him “post master” S845. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Probably him in 1840: John Bross, 30–39, heads a Noxubee County household with a woman 30–39, a young man 15–19 and girls 5–9 and 10–14 Probable confirm or correct → S1015. Evidence: he is the only Bross on the page, and the ages of the head, the woman 30–39 and the girl 5–9 fit John (49 in 1850), Matilda (43) and Mary (19) S845. Weak: 1840 names only the head, so the others are age marks, not names. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Probably him in the 1845 Mississippi state census of Noxubee County, as John Bross, head Probable confirm or correct → S1020. Evidence: he is the only Bross on the page, in the county where he is in 1840 S1015 and 1850 S845. Weak: the household figures are illegible, so nothing but the name can be compared. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026
  • 🆕 Probably him in 1830 in Alabama (Tuscaloosa County by the index): Jno Bross, 20–29, with a woman 20–29, a boy 5–9 and a girl under 5 Probable confirm or correct → S1021. Evidence: the man and woman fit John, born about 1801, and Matilda, born about 1807 S845, and an Alabama home fits Mary’s birth in Alabama about 1831. Weak: 1830 names only the head, and the county header is not on the page. Know more? Use “Add to this record”. added 29 September 2026

Jarrett Walker

Probable

Evidence: Jarrett Walker's will, signed in Union District, South Carolina, on 13 September 1824 and read from the image, names a son Daniel among his children still under age; Daniel Green Walker was 35, born South Carolina, in 1850. Weak or missing: Nothing yet ties the Mississippi and California Daniel to Union District: no middle name, deed or estate division, and Daniel Walker is a common name. Not yet confirmed. Know more? Confirm or correct this →

Probable father of Daniel Green Walker · died 1824 or 1825

  • Research status: PROBABLE — accepted by Earl 28 September 2026 pending more evidence. Jarrett Walker's will, signed in Union District, South Carolina, on 13 September 1824 and read from the image, names a son Daniel Walker among the children still under age S847. Daniel Green Walker was born about 1815 in South Carolina: he was 35, born South Carolina, in 1850 S845. What is weak: nothing yet ties the Mississippi and California Daniel to Union District — no middle name, deed or estate division — and Daniel Walker is a common name in South Carolina Probable confirm or correct →
  • Probable father of Daniel Green Walker, of Daniel Green Walker & Mary Jane Bross
  • His will leaves his estate to “my dear beloved wife Sarah Walker” for her lifetime, “to support and to school the under named children … until they become of age or get married (Viz) Thomas Walker, Mary Walker, Elizabeth H. Walker, Robert Y. Walker, Martha D. Walker, Daniel Walker, Henry C. Walker, Sarah Walker, Juliet A. T. Walker”; his son William Walker gets a colt; his executors are his wife Sarah and his son Thomas S847
  • Died after 13 September 1824, when he signed his will, and before about 7 March 1825, when it was proven, in Union District, South Carolina S847. An online tree's birth on 25 May 1773 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, is on no record read, and the will does not give Sarah's maiden name

Texas Birth Index, Tarrant County · and the 1950 US Census

  • All three daughters of Clarence Melvin Walker and Dorothy La Vonne Peters appear in the Tarrant County birth index to the same couple, and all three match the survivors named in Dorothy's 2022 obituary S39S36
  • Clare La Vonne Walker — Kristin's mother. Living; name and relationship only, and no date
More · 3 further facts
  • Marilyn Dorothy Walker — the "Marilyn (Phillip) McGovern of Nashville, TN" of the obituary. Living; details withheld
  • Carolyn Jane Walker — the "C.J. (Ed) Farris of Arlington, TX" of the obituary. Living; details withheld
  • 1950 US Census, White Settlement, Tarrant County — Clarence M. Walker and Dorothy L. Walker in one household with daughters Clare and Marilyn. Carolyn Jane was not yet born. A federal enumerator, on one line S39
One index row carries the whole finding. The Tarrant County birth entry for Clare La Vonne Walker gives both parents — Clarence Melvin Walker and Dorothy La Vonne Peters — in a single line. It supplies the husband's full name, the wife's maiden name, and the Fort Worth birth the family had always described, all from a state vital record rather than from a headstone S39. The date on that row is not reproduced here: she is living.
⚠️ Neither Dorothy's memorial nor Melvin's carries FindAGrave family links — both were checked, and neither has parents, spouse or children attached. The shared cemetery is corroboration only. The obituary and the state vital records carry this finding on their own S36S37.

Walker (1857–1914) S787, is Probable confirm or correct →: Daniel is in his parents' house at Palacios in 1910 S406. Above William, Daniel Green Walker × Mary Jane Bross are now his probable parents Probable confirm or correct →: William's own 1914 death certificate names them S787, his mother lived with him in 1900 as Mary J. Daniels S808, and his brother Edgar's certificate gives Daniel's middle name S809. The online tree's joins back through South Carolina to Thomas Walker (1737–1802) of Lunenburg, Virginia have no source. So Thomas Walker hangs above an unproven gap, and everything above him is already quarantined as contradicted.

What would close it, in order — (1) the 1900 census household of William B. Walker is found, in Jackson County, not McLennan or Bosque: it has a son Jackson J., born March 1890, Daniel Jonah's month and year, but not his name S808, so a Texas birth or school record for Daniel Jonah is still wanted; (2) the 1860 or 1870 census of Daniel G. and Mary J. Walker at Columbia, California, with a son William B. His certificate gives his birth there on 11 April 1857; the birthplace line reads “Columbia, Calif.” (re-read from the image on 27 September 2026) S787, and the online tree puts Daniel Green's 1873 death at Columbia, Tuolumne County. An earlier version of this plan looked for the family at Columbia, Brazoria County, Texas; no record here supports that. Each is a single index search and one image; the 1870 search for Daniel Green's household found nothing (checked 26 September 2026); by 1880 he was dead and his widow was Mary Dannels in Angelina County, Texas S809, and in 1900 Mary J. Daniels in William's household S808. A Texas death index entry for Willie Bernard Walker has no birthplace column, so it cannot settle this.

  3. S24Family testimony — Earl Proeger, September 2026. Stated directly by the family and recorded on their word. Covers: the Silva maiden name and William Harry Proeger as his father's father (both of which record research had already reached independently); and, on Kristin's side, her father Thomas Caffey — raised in Austin, University of Texas, died at Austin — and her mother Lavonne Walker, Walker being her maiden name, born at Fort Worth, Tarrant County. Not a document. No record has been retrieved for any of the Caffey or Walker statements, no dates were supplied for either person, and none has been estimated. Carried throughout as Family testimony, never as Confirmed. Superseded in part on 13 September 2026: the Thomas Caffey statements are now carried on records instead — see S31–S35. The Lavonne Walker statements still rest on this source alone. Extended 17 September 2026: the family further states that she was born Walker, married a Caffey and divorced, then married a Danielson who has since died — which is why her photographs are captioned Danielson. It matches the Caffey obituary's "former wife, LaVonne Danielson" [S31] independently. Her present surname and her widowhood rest on this testimony alone; the second husband's given name, and every date and place attached to that marriage, were not supplied and are not published. Extended 22 September 2026 (eyewitness): Earl was present at the birth of his half-brother John Jacob “Jacob” Proeger, born 25 May 1994 on the island of Guam to William Leonard Proeger and Briana Castro Proeger; Earl states the birth was one month before his own wedding ceremony with Kristin, which was also held on Guam (the marriage itself was registered in Travis County; see the next entry). No birth record has been retrieved. Extended 22 September 2026 (Earl’s own account of his marriage): “Kristin and I married on Guam in a ceremony but registered our marriage in Travis County when we visited Austin, as that had been our home for many years, and we could marry without swearing, a scruple we held as Quakers and which Guam had no accommodation for.” The only date held is the Travis County registration, 25 June 1994, from the Texas Marriage Index [S2]; the date of the Guam ceremony was not supplied and is not published.
  4. S31Obituary, Thomas Alan Caffey, Austin American-Statesman, published 8–14 January 2017; Legacy.com id 17338018. Names his parents ("born on March 7th, 1946, to Lucille and Thomas Caffey"), his sisters, and — decisively for this record — "his daughter Kristin Proeger and her husband Earl of Austin." Retrieved in a browser; a plain fetch is blocked. Its guest book also carries a family friend's "T.W. and Lucille," which is corroboration, not kinship: no record makes that family related.
  5. S36Obituary of Dorothy LaVonne Peters Walker (12 February 1926 – 13 August 2022), Greenwood Funeral Home, Fort Worth — greenwoodfuneralhomes.com; the same text transcribed on FindAGrave memorial 242876604, Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth. Family-written. It names her husband "Melvin Walker," her parents "Benjamin 'Pete' and Selma Peters," her three daughters, her Chicago birth and Sioux Falls upbringing, the Norway trips, and — decisively — "Kristin (Earl) Proeger of Austin, TX" among her grandchildren. ⚠️ Only the funeral home's own copy carries the "ROUND ROCK" dateline; the FindAGrave transcription drops it. The funeral home's page is published in full in the Documents grid (Earl's per-item exception, 25 Sep 2026).
  6. S37FindAGrave memorial 103851507, Clarence Melvin Walker (5 November 1920 – 23 July 1991), Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas — findagrave.com/memorial/103851507. A grave marker transcription. ⚠️ Neither this memorial nor Dorothy's carries any family link — both were checked, and neither has parents, spouse or children attached. The shared cemetery corroborates; it never carried the finding.
  7. S38US Social Security NUMIDENT — Walker and Peters entries, republished verbatim at SortedByName.com — walker/index_707 and peters/index_123. A government record; parent fields come from the person's own SS-5 application. Gives "WALKER, CLARENCE MELVIN … born 5 November 1920 in LOLITA, Texas, son of DANIEL J WALKER and NETTIE CLEVLAND … died 23 July 1991," and "PETERS, BENJAMIN L … born 12 October 1905 … died 9 April 1993, while residing in Zip Code 78154" (Schertz, Guadalupe County, Texas). Both sets of dates match the headstones exactly and independently.
  8. S39Texas Birth Index 1903–1997 and the 1950 US Census, Tarrant County, via FamilySearch in a signed-in session. "Clare La Vonne Walker — Birth [date withheld], Tarrant, Texas — Parents Clarence Melvin Walker, Dorothy La Vonne Peters," with her sisters Marilyn Dorothy and Carolyn Jane indexed to the same couple; and the 1950 census household at White Settlement, Tarrant County. The state vital record that supplies Dorothy's maiden name, independently of any obituary. ⚠️ All three daughters are living, so the birth dates on these index rows are redacted here — the citation is reproduced as it was read, minus the dates the privacy rule withholds.
  9. S60WikiTree profile and transcription of the 1802 will of Thomas Walker (1737–1802), Lunenburg County, Virginia — naming nine living adult children including "Jarratt." A transcription on a collaborative tree, not the original will book. Its own note opens by warning that three different Thomas Walkers are routinely confused, and explicitly disclaims both Dr. Thomas Walker of Castle Hill and the Thomas Walker who married Catherine McClelland; ours is described as "just a farmer in Lunenburg County." The presidential descent that profile mentions is attached to a different Thomas Walker and is not claimed here.
  10. S871930 United States federal census — Precinct 2, Jackson County, Texas: the Walker household. Read 16 September 2026. Enumerates Daniel Jonah Walker and Nettie Ellen "Annie" Walker with their children Mary, Olan, Clarence Melvin and Robert J — the household Kristin's grandfather was born into at Lolita in 1920. This is what took the Walker great-grandparents past two bare index names. Before it, the couple existed only in the parent fields of their son's Social Security NUMIDENT record, which spells her "Nettie Clevland" and gives no dates, no places and no children. The census writes Cleveland and supplies the household. Their own parents are still Not found; the tree's "Desa Hodges, b. 1888" for Nettie's mother would make the mother eight years old and is rejected, not corrected.
  11. S126Bradley Neal Caffey — Texas birth index, 23 February 1972, Travis County. Texas, U.S., Birth Index, 1903–1997, Ancestry collection 8781, record 11286050, index image TXBTH_1972_000216a. Read 21 September 2026. Father Thomas Alan Caffey; mother Clare LaVonne Walker. The record that makes him Kristin's full brother rather than a surname match. A state birth index naming both parents, and they are the same two parents the same index gives for Kristin in 1975 (image TXBTH_1975_000216e). Corroborated independently by the 2022 Walker obituary [S36], which lists Brad and Kristin in one sentence as grandchildren of the same woman. ⚠ No evidence of a third child. Across the whole Caffey hint cluster and the full obituary, only these two appear as children of this couple — that is absence of evidence from two sources that each had reason to name everyone, and is graded Probable, not Confirmed.
  12. S127Thomas Alan Caffey and Clare LaVonne Walker — marriage, 7 June 1969, Tarrant County, Texas. Texas, U.S., Marriage Index, 1824–2014, Ancestry collection 8795, record 3165434. Read 21 September 2026; the same date is carried forward on the 1980 divorce record [S128]. ⚠ One conflict, resolved against the newspaper. The Newspapers.com Marriage Index (record 102623378) dates this marriage 14 June 1969. That collection is machine-extracted — Ancestry's own header states it was "found using artificial intelligence technology and may contain errors" — and it is one derived index against two state indexes that agree on 7 June. This page takes 7 June 1969. The likeliest explanation is mundane: the newspaper item ran the week after the ceremony and the extractor took the publication date for the event date.
  13. S128Caffey–Walker divorce, 3 October 1980, Travis County, Texas. Texas, U.S., Divorce Index, 1968–2017, Ancestry collection 8794, record 1980076447. Read 21 September 2026. A state record. It fixes to the day what this page previously carried as the bare year 1980 [S33]. Clare LaVonne Walker is living, and this page publishes living adults in full under Earl's rule of 21 September 2026. A divorce is the kind of fact a living person might not want published, so it is recorded here that this one is on the page deliberately and with his authority, not by oversight. The state file number is not published.
  14. S129Clare LaVonne Walker and Wayne Allen Danielson — marriage, 10 July 1993, Travis County, Texas. Texas, U.S., Select County Marriage Records, 1837–2015, Ancestry collection 9168, record 130766248. Read 21 September 2026. Corroborated by the U.S. Index to Public Records (collection 62209, record 235937201), which files her as "Lavonne W Danielson" at Austin and Fredericksburg from 1993 onward, and by U.S. Phone and Address Directories (collection 7339, record 296670805), "Lavonne Danielson," spouse "Wayne," Austin, 1996–2002. This is what settles the two-names question, and the answer is a remarriage, not an index variant. Every Danielson record postdates July 1993; every Caffey and Walker record precedes it. There is no third reading of her name to reconcile — there are two marriages. It is a separate matter from, and does not disturb, the middle-name finding: her mother Dorothy La Vonne Peters passed that middle name to her, which is why Texas indexes file her under the first name Clare that the family does not use. Both things are true at once. Wayne Allen Danielson is the University of Texas dean — second dean of the College of Communication, 1969–1979. Identified 23 September 2026 by Earl Proeger [S24] and by the dean's own obituary, which names his wife LaVonne and his stepchildren Brad Caffey and Kristin Proeger [S297].
  15. S131Bradley Neal Caffey — marriage to Erin Helm, 23 August 2003, Travis County, Texas. Three independent indexes agreeing on the date: Texas, U.S., Marriage Index collection 8795 record 13022122; Newspapers.com Marriage Index collection 62116 record 177232356; Texas, U.S., Select County Marriage Records collection 9168 record 940285567. Read 21 September 2026. Her own ancestry belongs to a different family and is out of scope for this record, which is why it is not worked here. Brad's residence history, which these records also supply down to city and year, stays in the research corpus — an editorial judgement about what belongs in a genealogy, not a privacy rule.
  16. S132Kristin Marie Caffey — L. C. Anderson High School yearbooks, Austin, Texas, 1990 and 1993. U.S., School Yearbooks, 1900–2016, Ancestry collection 1265: 1990 image sid_1636_1990_0095 (record 601954478, printed page 91, "Unique Classes" underclass portrait rail, key printing "Kristin Caffey (9)"); 1990 image sid_1636_1990_0197 (record 1164442023, printed page 193, index and group pictures, printing "Caffey, Kristin (9) 50, 91, 193" and the Marching Band group caption); 1993 image sid_1636_1993_0110 (record 1052669974, printed page 106, "1993 Seniors of Anderson" mass class photograph, roll printing her full name "Kristin Marie Caffey"). Retrieved 21 September 2026 through Earl's signed-in Ancestry session; Deep-Zoom tiles stitched at level 12 to 2720 × 3664 px (1990) and 2592 × 3376 px (1993), 138 of 138 tiles, no misses. Read-only: no hint was accepted, ignored, rejected or attached, and no tree was edited. The school is Anderson, not Austin High — the research brief that commissioned this said Austin High and was wrong. The viewer breadcrumb reads Texas / Austin / Anderson High School, Ancestry's own school field says Anderson on all three records, and the 1993 page is captioned "1993 Seniors of Anderson" with Anderson sweatshirts in the photograph. Printed page numbers differ from the image sequence numbers throughout this collection (91≠095, 193≠197, 106≠110); both are recorded. ⚠ Ancestry's derived birth years for her are junk and are not used. It computes 1974 from the 1990 volume and 1977 from the 1993 one for the same person — both are blanket "about 16" machine estimates, not records. Her date of birth here comes from the state birth index [S126]. ⚠ A 1993 senior class photograph is several hundred living people, not one. The page is published because Earl asked for it by name; everyone else on it is a classmate who did not. That is recorded here as a judgement made, not a detail overlooked. One page not retrieved: printed page 50, which her own index line cites.
  17. S145Texas certificate of death no. 92128, 1971 — Nettie E. Walker (Nettie Ellen Cleveland). Ancestry collection 2272 (Texas, U.S., Death Certificates, 1903–1982), record 1216570, image 33154_b062847-00961, form VS-112 rev. 1/58. Filed with the local registrar 1 December 1971 (file no. 96, L. M. Sheffield) and received by the Texas Bureau of Vital Statistics 18 December 1971. Read from the image at full resolution — 2811 × 2390 px, 30/30 DeepZoom tiles, 21 September 2026. The sheet gives: name Nettie E. Walker; died 25 November 1971 at 6:00 a.m. in White Settlement Hospital, White Settlement, Tarrant County, after a stay of one month; usual residence 5717 Terrace Trail, Sansom Park; female, Caucasian, married; date of birth 27 November 1897, age 73; birthplace Nebraska, citizen of the U.S.A.; occupation housewife, homemaking; father Melton Cleaveland; mother's maiden name Maude Melville Warner; never in the armed forces; Social Security number on the certificate, not transcribed; cause of death uremia (2 weeks) due to renal shutdown (3 weeks) due to post-traumatic shock (3 weeks); autopsy performed; certified by C. J. Carter, M.D., who had attended her since 1965; buried 27 November 1971 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, by Maxine Biggers of Biggers Funeral Home. Her parents are named here for the first time in this research — Melton Cleaveland and Maude Melville Warner. Neither has appeared in any earlier file, and neither is given a person record on the strength of one line on one certificate. The burial is the strongest tie to this family: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, on 27 November 1971 is the same cemetery as her son Clarence Melvin Walker. ⚠ The birth date on this sheet conflicts with the one already on this site. The certificate says 27 November 1897; the couple card carries 29 November 1896 — two days and one year apart — and neither date is settled. Item 8 of a death certificate is informant-supplied, not a birth record; the age column (73 last birthday) agrees with the certificate's own date, which corroborates the sheet and not the fact. Both stay on the page until a Nebraska birth or baptismal record decides. ⚠ The certificate is registered under her married surname and names no husband — the form has no spouse field, so the sheet never says Daniel. The identification rests on the Cleaveland maiden surname in item 13, the middle initial E. for Ellen, the Nebraska birthplace already independently on record [S87], and the shared Mount Olivet burial. Ancestry's hint engine also matched it to her, which is an opinion and not evidence. ⚠ The informant is a signature, not a printed name, reading most plausibly E. G. Walker; it is not D. J. Walker and not C. M. Walker as written, and who E. G. Walker was is unknown. ⚠ Post-traumatic shock is named as the underlying cause while every injury field is blank — items 20a–20f, accident/suicide/homicide, time, manner and place of injury, are entirely empty. The certificate contradicts itself by omission, and what happened three weeks before her death is not on this page. ⚠ The physician's street address (item 22b) reads 6721 and the street name is not legible.
  18. S2091930 U.S. Federal Census — D. Jonah Walker household, J.P. 2, Jackson County, Texas. Ancestry record 62694189; ED 120-5, sheet 4B. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. D. Jonah Walker, 40, first married at 22; Nettie, 33, first married at 15, born Nebraska; Olan 15, Robert J. 12, Melvin 9 and Mary 7. 🔑 The ages at first marriage put the marriage at about 1911–12.
  19. S2101950 U.S. Federal Census — D. J. Walker household, Lolita, Jackson County, Texas. Ancestry record 186702072; ED 120-15, sheet 3. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. D. J. Walker, 60, farmer, and Ida, 57, both born Texas; his mother Nancy Walker, 85, widowed, born Alabama. 🔑 A second wife, Ida, and his mother Nancy (c.1865). Nettie is not in the household; when and how the first marriage ended is not settled.
  20. S211WWII draft registration card, 1942 (U-534) — "Daniel Jones Walker", Lolita, Jackson County, Texas. Ancestry record 12617872. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Age 52, born 10 March 1890, McLennan ("McClellon") County, Texas; farmer; contact R. T. Walker, Lolita. Only the front of the card was fetched. ⚠ The card reads "Jones"; the site keeps Jonah.
  21. S2131900 U.S. Federal Census — Charles E. Smith household, Fullerton City, Nance County, Nebraska. Ancestry record 55270332; ED 145, sheet 3A. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Nettie E. Cleveland, born November 1896, 3, father born California, mother Nebraska, entered as granddaughter of Charles E. Smith (b. Oct 1844, Mich., carpenter) and his wife Victoria (b. 1844, Ohio; married one year, no children). ⚠ How Nettie is related to Charles E. Smith is not explained by the sheet.
  22. S2241910 U.S. Federal Census — Milton Cleveland household, Precinct 5, Brazoria County, Texas. Ancestry record 143961038; ED 11, sheet 2A, lines 14–17. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Milton Cleveland, 37, born California, carpenter, married twice, one year; Desa, 22, born Nebraska, first marriage, one year, no children born; son Edgar, 11, and daughter Nettie, 13, both born Nebraska to a Nebraska-born mother. 🔑 Desa is Nettie's stepmother, not her mother. Nettie's birth mother, a Nebraska-born first wife, is not named. ⚠ A Chas Cleveland, 64, born Michigan, nearby may be Milton's father; not assumed.
  23. S2261950 U.S. Federal Census — Walker household, Terrace St, Sansom Park Village, Tarrant County, Texas. Ancestry record 190625488; ED 220-91, sheet 31, lines 16–17. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. Nettie E. Walker, 52, wife, born Nebraska, keeping house; head "Eddie G." Walker, 51, born Texas, married. 🔑 Terrace St fits the Sansom Park address on her death certificate [S145]. ⚠ Daniel Jonah Walker would be 60, not 51; the head is either a mangled entry or a second husband. Unresolved; no husband is stated from this record.
  24. S227Fort Worth, Texas, City Directory, 1932, p. 744. Ancestry record 1123396265. Read from the image at full resolution, 22 September 2026. "Walker Danl J (Nettie E) h3005 E 4th." 🔑 Daniel Jonah and Nettie were householders in Fort Worth by 1932.
  25. S295U.S., Newspapers.com™ Obituary Index, 1800s-current — Dorothy L. Walker. Ancestry record 814246314. Index entry only — no image was examined, read 22 September 2026. Probable Indexed: Dorothy L Walker, spouse Clarence Melvin Walker; children La Vonne Caffey, Marilyn Peters, Carolyn J Wilson. Almost certainly Melvin's 1991 obituary, indexed with Dorothy as his widow. The daughters' married names of about 1991 are Probable.
  26. S297Wayne Allen Danielson, Ph.D. — obituary, Austin American-Statesman, 5 November 2017 (Legacy.com, Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes, Austin). Read and captured 23 September 2026. States: born 6 December 1929, Burlington, Iowa, to Bessie and Arthur Leroy Danielson; B.A. Journalism, University of Iowa, 1952; M.A. 1953 and Ph.D. 1957, Stanford; dean of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina; joined the University of Texas faculty in 1969 and was dean of the College (formerly School) of Communication, 1969–1979; first wife Beverly Kinsell, d. 1988, mother of his four children; later "courted and married LaVonne Walker Caffey," an Austin ISD early-childhood special-education teacher; died 31 October 2017, aged 87. Survivors: "his wife LaVonne", sons Matt, Ben and Paul, daughter Grace Chimene, and "Stepchildren … Brad (Erin) Caffey and Kristin (Earl) Proeger both of Austin." Corroborated by the Moody College of Communication's notice Remembering Wayne Danielson (3 November 2017), which gives the 1969–1979 deanship and the 31 October death, and by the UNC Hussman School's Wayne Danielson (1929–2017), which quotes advice from "him and his wife LaVonne." This, with Earl's confirmation of 23 September 2026 [S24], is what identifies the husband in the 1993 marriage record [S129] as the dean. The obituary's loose chronology (“three years” after 1988 before he began dating) does not date the marriage; the county record's 10 July 1993 stands.
  27. S331Texas death certificate no. 3466 — Nancy Jane Walker, 1953. Texas, U.S., Death Certificates, 1903–1982 (Ancestry collection 2272, record 21787116), Jackson County. Read from the image. Born 19 October 1864, Alabama; died 3 January 1953, Lolita; widowed; father Robert Higginbothan; mother's maiden name Avery; cause of death carcinoma of the jaw, one year; buried Lolita Cemetery. The certificate image is in the Documents grid.
  28. S393World War I draft registration card — Daniel Jones [Jonah] Walker, Precinct 13, Jackson County, Texas, 5 June 1917. Ancestry record 16436681. Image examined, read 24 September 2026. Confirmed Daniel Jones Walker, 27, of Lolita, born March 10th 1890 at China Springs, Texas; general laborer for Milton Cleavland at Lolita; married, claiming exemption as the only support of a wife and two children; medium height and build, gray eyes, dark brown hair. His employer is his father-in-law, Nettie's father Melton Cleaveland. “Jones” is how the card writes Jonah.
  29. S3941940 U.S. Federal Census — E. G. Walker household, 2605 Hale St., Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas (ED 257-122, sheet 10B, lines 46–48). Ancestry record 160343789. Image examined, read 24 September 2026. Confirmed E. G. Walker, 41, truck man at a dry cleaners; wife Nettie, 42, born Nebraska, a seamstress on the WPA sewing project; daughter Mary Elen, 14; all at the same place in 1935.
  30. S4061910 U.S. Federal Census — Willie B. Walker household, Perryman Avenue, Palacios, Matagorda Co., Texas (ED 145, sheet 1B, lines 71–77). Ancestry record 123055432. Image examined, read 24 September 2026. Confirmed Willie B. Walker, 53, born California, owning his house; wife Nancy J., 45, born Alabama, mother of 5 children, 5 living; sons Robert T., 22, delivery-wagon driver, and “John”, 20, farm laborer, born Texas; Ruth E., 12; Willie E. Jr., 7; and Mary J. Daniels, 79, “mother”; enumerated 13 May 1910. “John” is taken to be Daniel Jonah: the only son of his age, with his parents and brother Robert T. (the R. T. Walker of his 1942 draft card). The name as written is John. Mary J. Daniels is probably Willie's mother Mary Jane Bross under a later married name; not proved.
  31. S407Texas birth certificate no. 16186 — a daughter of D. Jona Walker and Nettie E. Walker, born 10 March 1923, Jackson Co., Texas. Ancestry record 108602949. Image examined, read 24 September 2026. Confirmed Father D. Jona Walker, 33, farmer, of La Ward, born McLennan Co., Texas; mother Nettie E. Walker, 26, born Nance Co., Nebraska; fifth child of the mother, 4 living; physician Jesse L. Womack, Edna. “Jona” supports Jonah over the “Jones” of the draft cards. Nettie's age, 26, fits a November 1896 birth (1930 census) rather than November 1897 (death certificate); it narrows the question but is not a birth record.

Parents given as Daniel Walker and Mary J. Brass (or Bross), born Alabama. Informant: Mrs. W. B. Walker. 🆕 The Texas death index agrees: “Walker, Willie Bernard”, Jackson County, 27 June 1914, certificate 12730 (Ancestry record 6333149, read 27 September 2026); it has no birthplace column. Corrects the tree's 10 April 1858. It is the first record to name his parents; that he is Daniel Jonah Walker's father is still probable (S406). Collection: Texas, U.S., Death Certificates.
  57. S8081900 U.S. census — Justice Precinct 2, Jackson County, Texas, sheet 16, dwelling 296: Willie B. Walker household. Ancestry record 43657783. Image examined, read 27 September 2026 (ED 59, sheets 16A–16B, lines 47–53). Probable Willie B. Walker, head, born April 1858, 42, born California, both parents born Alabama; a farmer owning a mortgaged farm; Nancy J., wife, 35, born Alabama; Neomi, 13; Robert, 12; Jackson J., 10, born March 1890; Ruth E., 2; and, on line 53, Mary J. Daniels, “Mother”, born June 1830, 69, widowed, mother of three children, born Alabama, her parents born South Carolina. Mary J. Daniels is taken as Mary Jane (Bross) Walker, remarried after Daniel Green Walker died: the 1880 “Mary Dannels” of Angelina County, with her son Edgar (S809). Her Alabama birth matches the birthplace given for Willie's mother, not Nancy J.'s (whose mother was born in South Carolina). Jackson J.'s birth month and year, from the index, are Daniel Jonah Walker's (10 March 1890), but the given name does not match. Collection: 1900 United States Federal Census.
  58. S809Texas death certificate: Edgar Bross Walker, died Precinct 3, Angelina County, 2 March 1941. Ancestry record 21818204, certificate 10777. Image examined, read 27 September 2026. Willie B. Walker's probable brother, cited only as evidence for their parents; he is not given a card. In 1880 Edgar, 18, was in Precinct 1, Angelina County, with his widowed mother “Mary Dannels”, 50, born Louisiana (census index read 27 September 2026), so the birthplaces disagree: California for both parents here, Alabama on Willie's certificate and census, Louisiana for Mary in 1880. Collection: Texas, U.S., Death Certificates.

Gibson. Index only; FamilySearch shows no image. Evidently a later marriage of Charles Edgar, whose son Milton married in Nance County in 1896 (S463). The census states no relationships, so Wm H. as her husband is probable, not stated; Nancy Jane's certificate names her father Robert, not William, so this page does not settle her father.

Image examined in the Stage 2 reading, 24 September 2026. Confirmed "Walker | Jonah, Inf. of | Jackson | 11-5 | 61632": an unnamed infant of Jonah Walker, born in Jackson County on 5 November 1920, state birth certificate 61632. This is Clarence Melvin Walker's birth registration: the same date and county as his Social Security entry (S38) and gravestone (S37), and his father Daniel Jonah Walker went by Jonah. The first digit of the date is overstruck; certificate numbers on the page run in date order, which places 61632 in November. The certificate itself has not been ordered. Collection: Texas, U.S., Birth Index, 1903–1997.

The Georgia birthplace is only a ditto under her husband's, and the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuses say South Carolina, so South Carolina is kept.

Compiled for the Proeger family

Living adults appear in full, on the same terms as everyone else here: what the records say, each claim cited. Minors appear by name only — no date of birth, no birth year, no age, no school, no place, no address, no other identifying detail. A minor may be named and may appear in a family photograph; nothing further about them is published. Where it is not established whether someone is an adult or a minor, the minor rule applies.
